Does anyone know where on the Internet I can buy bulk hides???? I would like to buy some for all my snakes and not sure where to look. Don't need anything fancy either. Thanks.

Try out reptilesonline. They do bulk anything pretty much.I know that Dr. Fosters and Smith sells bulk vines and other cage accessories. They may sell bulk hides as well.

Just head to your local wal-mart or k-mart and pick up some drawer organizers. I find them pretty reasonable at just over $2 a piece. I turn them over, and cut a 2" hole in the top (was the bottom!). I have been able to find Rubbermaid brand at wal-mart and (ack) Martha Stewart brand at K-mart.

Here's a pic:

As you can (not) see in the picture, my snakes use them. My largest male corn fits underneath one quite nicely! (he's about 4' and THICK)

Hope that helps,

Drizzt what kind of a rack system is that? did you build that, or did you order it?

That rack is completely homemade and designed. It's a heavy SOB, made with melamine, and if I recall, 1/4' glass for the doors, and in the floors. I put a 10x10" plate of glass in the bottom to attach UTH's for the heat source. Didn't want to mess with lightbulbs etc inside the cage. Some of these numbers may be off, it was 3 years ago that I built it, and the plans are filed away somewhere . . . I do know it's 36" long and I believe 12" deep. I'm pretty proud of it, except for the weight, and the only thing I'd really change is adding a 1" dam under the door guides in the front. Bedding is always getting caught in the track. I plan to make another or two once I can get a house and have my own real snake room.

Personally, I use a lot of combination water bowl/hides. ...just those large plastic dog bowls with a hole in each side for easy lifting and the snakes love to curl up under them. Otherwise, if there are no holes, I just cut some. I've given them additional hides besides the water bowls, but I always find them under the water bowl.

You can get them in bulk for just a couple dollars, they don't tip their water, and you get a water bowl and hide all at the same time.

I use the same as Hurley on my cool side. my snakes love them. for the hot side of my tub. I use 4 inch PVC (schedule 40) pipe. I cut it to the length of my tubs. then i split it in half. it makes it like a half log type. not very pretty but my snakes use it. i seen them under it, on top. but it is very easy to clean.

I got a cheap hide by buying a teri coti (SP)pot at the dollar store. I also got a plastic saucer for 49 cents at walmart that matches the pot. My husband tried to stay with the garden theme and put a little hand held rack in that he got for 1 dollar too. useless Yes I know but the hubby thought he was being so crafty so I went along with it and shadow seems to like crawling on it, its one of his fav spots so far. heres a pic
