Burrowing in substrate???

Hi,

My corn snake is about 5 months old now and recently i have notice a change in his behavior. Durring the day, he hides in his hidebox most of the time and durring the night he wanders about in his cage. But recently i have notice that he has been burrowing in the substrate thought the day and at night he comes out a little but still stays in the substrate most of the time. One thing that worries me is that the heatpad under the cage on one half of the cage gets very hot. I am scared that he might burrow down to where the heatpad is and burn himself. Could he do this?

I have been feeding him 2 pinky mice a week, the temps are right, and there is water in the water bowl.

Now why is he burrowing a lot? He has done this for about a week now.

THanks!!!

It's possible he will burn himself. I would get a rheostat or a lamp dimmer as soon as you can. It should be 85 right on top of the uth. It's normal for snakes to burrow. My snow just recently learned he could do this (he's almost two years old so that's pretty sad :p lol).
