Burrowing

I hadn't read anything dealing with corn snakes burrowing. So I was suprised to find my guy burrowed in his new aspen bedding. Actually it scared the hell out of me at first, when I couldn't find him during the morning head count. I ripped that cage apart that morning, just to find him sleeping in a little aspen cave. If I knew they liked the stuff so much I would have gone over the aspen sooner instead of buying that reptile bark stuff.

LOL. Yeah, they love tunneling through aspen. Sometimes I think I could remove all the hides in the tank and the snake wouldn't care as long as there's some nice, fluffy aspen in there. :D

To keep things interesting for our corn, I alternate between Aspen and reptile bark. The Aspen certainly inspires burrowing, while the bark does not.

I found out that no matter what you used they burrowed. Young snake like to hide away as much as possible for safty reason.

I have a couple of them that will burrow for 2-3 days after feedeing. It seems to be an individual preference though. I have one that never burrows, but spends most time sitting on top of her hide.

Mine all act the same way as well. In addition to tunneling through the aspen and hiding there, they also like to get under their water bowls...I think it's a conspiracy to give me heart attack because under the bowl is always the last place I look. By the time I think to look there, I'm already beginning to think they've escaped...

ya same here, all three of mine were under the reltiel bark and i could not find them until i looked under the cage and saw all there stomcs.
