Cage cleaning

RAP

New member
I am a fairly new snake owner. In the last 8 months I have gotten 5 Corns, 1 King, & 1 Ball Python. All are under a year. How often should you clean their cage?

I use NatureBark in their cages. Currently I scoop out daily and do a major scrubbing every two weeks.

Thanks for your suggestions.

Welcome to the forum, this place is so great!! NE way to the question at hand. You cleaning schedual is just like mine except that I use aspen. It's works well for me.

By the way what is natureBark is it kinda like repti-bark?

Yeah, what you're doing sounds fine. I completely clean out and disinfect the vivs every month. I do this because my snakes very, very rarely poop in their vivs as they do it in their bath which they have twice a week.

NatureBark is the brand. It is natural ground bark from the Fir tree.

Thanks for your responses. This is a great forum.

Woah a Fur bark might be toxic, it rings a bell but im not sure.. Always check on that fact before using a substrate.. Aspen is nontoxic and works well, look into using that.. Your cleaning plan sounds better than mine so i'd stick with it.. I was told after 6 months the cage should be cleaned out completely, ofcourse after mites is always a good time also..

Cleaning completely means new bedding and cleaning all the cage accesories.. You can boil some water, pour into a large bowl, or bucket and throw in your cage accesories to kill off parasites and bacteria for the most part.. Scrubbing will need 2 be done with some accessories..

Thanks for your message. I was starting to get scared I was using the wrong bark.

I do think that I might start using Aspen. I see lots of people using it.
