Cage cover question!

Ok, I'm setting up my 10gal tank for a soon-to-be-purchased corn, 1 year or under. I picked up this cover today at WalMart and it looks pretty good, but I wanted some expert advice before I settle on it...still time to order something online.

This is the bag it came in

And this is the cover on the tank

Is this acceptable? If not, can you recommend other secure covers for a 10gal tank that don't cost too much? Thanks.

I have a lid like this and I like it, I would suggest putting a weight of some kind over the middle. I have and 06' in that viv and think she could push out the sides of the middle. They are tricky little demons  and I'm just overly protective enough to worry about it. susan

If you can put lid clips on it, do so.
As already said they can push their ways out.
Good idea but this lid fits inside of lip then latches with little push levers which go under the li. It is a nice cover but has that one drawback.
:shrugs: susan

Oooh really, weird I've never seen a lid like that before. Is it hard to take out cause it's like wedged into place?

Definatly put something on it to weigh it down then.

No easy to get out and if you have a snake that likes to hang out at the ledge by the top, they can't. But if they get their head up there I feel sure they could push out or worse get head stuck.

I have a couple of those, and they work okay, but not great. Depending on the brand of aquarium, they can be a pretty loose fit. Also, the removal plugs have a tendency to get lost over time, so I'd run a bead of caulk around the opening before putting them in, that way they can't come loose accidentally.

Cool. Thanks for the replies all :)

I've kind of broken down and am looking into getting a Critter Cage, the kind with the sliding/locking lids. I never did before cause they're kinda pricey and I already have a 10 and 20L tank. Now, with this trouble over secure lids (and a bit of extra $ from school grants) I'm gonna look into those and sell my other tanks.

Here's the problem though: I will probably only be able to get one tank like that. Since it would be their 'adult' tank, I would prefer to get the 20. So, would a 1 year old or less corn be alright in that size tank with lots of hiding spaces or would the extra space still scare them? (I think I know the answer, but I still have to ask)

The snake should be fine. Try not to leave a lot of wide open space where it can feel vulnerable. Put in plants and multiple hides so it has choices and never feels far from safety. Until it's older or has shown it can find it, put in water dishes at each end.

Great, that's what I'll do then. Thanks for the tips on setup, I'll be sure to get a few extra hides and another water dish when I get the tank...I always like to put in plenty of plants (fake of course) for reptiles. :)
