cage shy

Why is my snake still cage shy? She always 'runs' from my hand. I've had her for maybe three months now. She's still only about 18 inches though(can't remember). Bottom line, she's still eating pinkies.

So is she just cautious cause of her size? I would think of that to be the number one issue if I had to guess, I'm just making sure that my snake doesn't hate me or something. I take great care of her though so that's not even a question.

I just got a ball python but they can't see each other, maybe she smelt the python on my hand? Is that another possibility?

I guess now that I think of it she doesn't always run, just when ever I catch her while she's already roaming around. If I take her from her hide while she's curled up she won't run though.

That's very normal. Most don't enjoy being handled...they just tolerate it. As long as she calms down fairly quickly after being caught, you'll be OK. After a year, or so, she should be pretty comfortable with the handling.

Yes, she's cautious because of her size. In nature she'd make a nice snack or meal for a lot of things, and she knows it.

Yes, she can smell your python if you didn't wash you hands well after handling it. And yes, the smell of other predators can cause a snake to be frightened.

Sounds like your baby is perfectly normal, and you're doing fine.
