Cage Sizes

Ok so within the next few months I plan on setting up a viv for my future Corn. I'm either going to get a hatching or a younger few mos. snake. So I have read several articles and some forums on this, but still no consensus. I was hoping to just drop the money and get his lager 50 gal tank enclosure setup right off the bat. I was going to put several hides in there. I would also have a separate feeding one for the little guy. Would this be ok, or should I start with a smaller gallon tank initially? Thanks.

If you're getting a hatchling Corn, the biggest problem with a larger viv is making it escape-proof. They do well in large enclosures as long as there are plenty of hides and ground cover, but they can squeeze through the most ridiculously tiny spaces - even between sliding glass doors sometimes.

I'd start with something smaller and move up to the larger one in maybe a year or eighteen months, when they're too big for that kind of trick.

Bitsy is right about the possibility of escape being your biggest problem. You can always buy the 50 gallon, and just get a little sterilite tub maybe 6 - 12 quarts for him to grow for a while in.

When I got mine I had a 55g set up for it, but I took the possibility of escape seriously and made sure that my latches (I have 8) kept the lid on well enough to prevent that. I also keep the substrate a little deep and have four hides so she feels secure.

Wow, thanks. Once again all GREAT advice. It will still be a few months, but I will remember it when picking out my very first viv. So excited. Thanks again. :)

This was what I was going to recommend as well :)
