Can corns have day old chicks?

There is someone advertising frozen day old chicks on my local Kijiji. Are these suitable for corns and, if so, how often is ok? It says they are about the size of an adult mouse, so I guess any of my corns who are on adults could have one? Is there any concern about them not wanting to go back to mice after having chicks?

I bought some frozen day-old chicks for variety for my larger corns. They are well-received but nobody has refused mice after having a chick.

Vinman kinda gave me the idea -- he uses chicken as part of his corns' diet and they are beautiful & he is a successful breeder so I thought, why not chicks for a corn? I bought some from Mice Direct (I think). I don't plan to offer them more than occasionally but they are struck avidly & swallowed quickly so I think they are working.

Yes. Rumor has it that their poop is a bit looser and smellier with chicks, though. I've never tried, but many here do.

My adults get the occasional chick, a nice inexpensive meal for them. You just have to watch their poop as chicks tend to give corns a touch of diarrhea. There is supposed to be a Salmonella issue, but I'm not sure about the finer details.

I have given my corns & boa these (small chicks) for about 2yrs now. No refusal & no problem going back to mice. I think I give them one a mth or less often. I get mine at RodentPro & also have been giving the quail to my younger corns & king. No refusal. I like the variety...just a personal choice.

I have used chicks off and on for over twenty years and have seen no ill effects and wouldn't expect any. I'd say they make up about 10-25% of what I feed right now. I know other large breeders that feed chicks exclusively to help keep down costs. You do have to clean cages more often and they are smellier.

Remember that in the wild rat snakes live almost entirely on raided bird nests in the Spring and Summer and survive quite well.
