Can I start breeding?

 I have a 0.1 snow that I would like to try to breed with a 1.0 Kistache for the first time... (Last clutch with both snow parents were a surprize, found eggs one day...) Neway, now that I have another male, I would like to try to breed him with my f. snow. What kind of snakes would that produce? Kisatche snows? Or something like Kisatche het snow? Or would that produce normals? How long do I have to wait b4 seperating them? And how do I know, besides the obvious of biting/ constricting each other if they dont like eachother? Or how can I tell if it was sucessful? Also, i would like to double clutch her, she has only done that once, and not for me, how can I get her 2 do that again? :shrugs:

Thank you...

I would highly recommend reading Kathy's book on breeding and searching here on the forum. You will find most of your answers that way.

Here a few answers anyway. You will have all normals, het snow. Some may have more Kisatchie color or not, but they will be normals. If they don't want to breed, they will avoid each other. I haven't seen much aggression, they mostly stay away from one another. I don't just leave the male and female together for extended periods. My breeding is done supervised so I know no one gets hurts (again I've never had this problem) and I want to make sure I see the "hook up" so I know the breeding took place. Then they go back to their own vivs. I may put them together a few days later as a safety net breeding, but it's supervised and the go back to their own vivs. The telltale yellow spooge on the floor is a good sign they mated.

Definitely read Kathy's book.

One more thing you might want to know about kisatchies is that they are actually not considered corn snakes any more, they are now there own species. So any resulting babies would be hybrids. Even if you follow the belief that they are not there own species and actually a natural intergrade of corns and emoryi they would still be hybrids and should be labeled as such.

So you would not really be able to produce kisatchies het snow because they would actually be kisatchie/corn het snow. There is currently no common name for this type of hybrid.
