"Samson" = Amel Zig Zag
Hi,

It's been a while since I've logged in. I have a bunch of wild corn pics I should share. Our home is in a wooded area and we get lots of visitors through the spring and summer.

Today, this lil girl had made it into our laundry via the sump pump. She must have slithered down a pipe somewhere and here she is. She's resting in a spare terrarium I have.

I'd appreciate any ideas on what type she is?

Di

Really!!!

oh wow... I was sure she was a corn.
do Eastern Milksnakes have the checkerboard belly? Her's is checkered all the way.

I'll have to post pics of all my other "visitors" this season, perhaps they are all milksnakes too. I can tell the garter's and was thinking they were all corns like my boy Samson. lol.

Undoubtedly! That is an Eastern Milk. I have caught and hatched out a bunch of them.

Yes, they can have a checkered belly. Here is a couple of pics of the ones I had.

This is one that I found that had a major wound. I took care of it till the wound got better then released her. You can really see the belly checks.

Hey Wayne,

thanks..... oh yes, I see now. how exciting.
she's about 18" long, I got my corn at about 6 wks so, over 3 years ago so I forget how big he was/at what age etc. She's very skinny, I'll try her on a pinkie in a day or two - I'm not sure, should I just release her?

Good luck getting her to eat. Most won't take CB mice. From what I understand, they generally have a preferred food in the wild and will only eat that. Trying to figure out what that is can be very difficult.

Both girls I have pictured never ate while I had them in captivity. That's just a heads up. I am not saying that you will have that problem, but they are known for it. That's why you don't see many people breeding them.

Oh, I am so glad you told me, if she refuses I won't be offended or blame my husbandry. I'll only keep her a few days to a week then, she's so pretty :)

I'm just glad my husband stumbled on her in the laundry or she would have soon slipped into some crevace and that might have been the end of her... at least now she can be released and get on with it.

She's healthy looking, slender but no injuries or anything like that.
thanks Wayne!!
