Hi i have a young amel who is about 6 months old, i have had him for 7 weeks and he still has not shed. Is there any way to tell when he is near a shed, i can tell when my anery is in blue because she goes really dark and her eyes cloud over. My amel is due fed tonight but i dont want to feed him if he is going to shed.

You will tell because their colors get very dull looking. Mine eat in full blue, never skips a meal but others have snakes that will not eat when shedding. I guess it just depends on the snake.

He doesnt look very dull, just hasnt been as active as usual. is seven weeks not a bit long for a young snake to go without shedding.

Yes...just like any other snake. The eyes will cloud over and the snake will get very dull. You'll be able to tell, don't worry.

Ok thanks, i will go ahead and feed him tonight as he doesnt look like he is in blue. My biggest worry was a regurge.

Think pink! This lavablood is a very exaggerated example of what your amel might look like when blue. Rather than the actual color of the snake, a more reliable clue is the activity level. If your snake is always out at a certain time in the evening, and you haven't seen him for a few days, chances are he's blue.

Firefly's colors get duller. I notice that more than cloudy eyes with her. Both my snakes will hide all the time when they are in the shed cycle. They never seem to come out as they normally would.

I didnt feed him last night and his colours seem alot duller today so he must be due a shed. At least i know what to look for the next time. thanks.

So the next, either you'll find a nice shed in his viv, or there he'll be, looking normal, but there's no shed! That means you caught him in the clear period before the shed- he'll shed in a few hours to a day or so.

It's still very hard for me to tell when my snows are getting ready to shed. I usually find the shed skin in their viv. I do keep a record of feeding and sheds so I know about when they should but it's still a case of "Oh you shed".
