Carnivorous Fungal Growth

RobbiesCornField

Bring it on.
So my fiance, after looking at chondro pictures for a while and seeing this girl when she came in, looked at her and said "she looks like a carnivorous fungal growth". I about died laughing because she hasn't even turned green yet! She's still got her baby yellows on her, but you can definitely see where the change is starting.

This first picture was taken while the grow light for her little tree was on.

And these next two were with the flash.

Thanks for looking!

Don't listen to them-you're a beautiful snake, yes you are!

I think the color change is the coolest thing about chondros.

:roflmao: That's definitely one of the reasons that attracted me to them originally. The ontogeny is just incredible!

 I can definitely see the reasoning in the first photo, though she's awfully cute for fungal growth.

That she is. :) She's a (not-so) little Biak, so I have high expectations for her coloring!

Very pretty! Where's her perch? They usually won't sit on the bottom if they have branches.

There's a few branches on her little tree further up that she sometimes sits on. She shuffles around her tank from day to day, I guess until she finds her perfect spot. Lol

Might be the perches are too small or too large. I've never had any that won't perch although at night they crawl all around. During the day they always go to the highest spot. Looks like she may develop some nice blue on her. Biak cross? She's got a lot of white markings on her. I think she'll turn out pretty nice! Maybe a tri color with high white.

Hmm... I do know that in the mornings she's usually on the top branch, but at night, she'll be down on the lip of the pot.
From what I was told, she's a pure Biak. I'm really looking forward to watching her change! :D

Also, I was just about to ask Nanci's question. Lol. I'm going to get a dowel rod or PVC pipe in there to give her some more options, but if you have a recommendation on size, that would be fantastic!

Is there a rule of thumb for how big of a branch to provide?

Is there a rule of thumb for how big of a branch to provide?

I vary things up for my chondros, but typically i try to provide at least 1 branch that is near their thickness. My 4ft Maxwell-style cages make things much easier as i can use trimmings from the pecan groves out here and get stuff with "Ys" as I've found most of my treeworms like resting in those

I use natural branches as well in my Maxwell style cages (same size as yours). I use oak and dogwood here. I had sycamore from when I lived on the west coast. I have varying thicknesses but as mentioned above, about as wide around as their body. I offer several levels too...at night they come down to the floor of the cage and climb around using the lower perch but they tend to perch at the highest spot during the day. I have a blasted grape stump that one uses at night. He hangs out near the door on it (presumably to get the food when it suddenly materializes in the door).

On a side note: I did use PVC that I burned and twisted but I found sometimes that it didn't help them shed well and I just didn't like the look. I prefer natural cages anyway and many of mine are now earth and plants.

So I checked on her this morning, and she was on the top branch!

Very cute! She sure is a pretty thing! That is definitely too small for her....She's choosing it cuz it's highest...something my others will do also. I've got to get one of those flexible vine things for my baby as it is perching on the thinnest branch in the whole viv since it happens to be the highest point in the cage.
