What would a Irian Jaya Jag crossed with a Irian Jaya produce in terms of size as an adult, colour as an adult, and most importantly temprement. If anyone can help or post any pictures if they have this cross that would be superb.

Kindest regards

Someone here has a 75% IJ/Jag cross, and it's a beauty. Hopefully, she'll see this thread and reply, as I can't be of any help, not having any carpet pythons of my own.

Well, how big is the IJ Jag in question? And what percentage of his/her ancestry is coastal? (Some has to be, because the jag morph came up in coastals.)

What you'll get if you breed these guys is a clutch of IJ jags and IJ/coastal jag sibs, about 50/50. Carpets in general seem to be pretty bitey as babies, but that's all right because they are tiny then and it doesn't matter much. My friend who breeds IJs and the gentleman who produced my IJ/coastal sib have both had this experience with their clutches. And owning one of each, I can tell you that my guys have awesome temperaments, and I can't even imagine them biting.

I've heard people say that the size difference between the subspecies is not nearly as consistent or as big a deal as it's made out to be. The conventional wisdom is that IJs stay pretty small and coastals can get up to 8 feet or more, but I've also heard that carpets average about six feet regardless of subspecies.

I recommend moreliapythons.com for finding out more about carpets. The people there know a whole lot more than I do!

im gonna say it will probably get no bigger than six foot as an adult if it is a female...it MAY get a little bigger but i doubt it. i used to keep alot of carpets and i have had 50/50 irian jaya/coastals that stayed under six foot. most will calm down pretty quickly, within two weeks in most cases with gentle handling. the colors of almost ANY jag will probably be awesome! my favorites so far are the new guennea jags that anthony capponetto has, those are wicked...and his 87.5% irian jaya jags are also nuts!!! they look like almost albino! bright orange on a white background!!!

Thanks guys for your answers most interesting, hopefully more members will also be able to forward some views

Kindest regards

I'm the one with the 75% IJ Jag, that Irish was referring to.
She's just a baby, but her momma, a 50% IJ Jag is not all that big. The sire is fairly big for an IJ, & he is the sire to to other IJ babies that I have. I expect my IJ's from him to be a little bit bigger than my IJ Jag, based on the parents. My youngest IJ is from small parents, so I don't expect her to get that big (on the scale of IJ size)

I have seen older IJ's that were huge for IJ's, so I'd have to say it depends on the lineage, that will play as much part as the species itself does.

I also have a Coastal baby that came from smaller parents, so she's not expected to get as big as most Coastals are known to get.

Do you have pics of the parents?

I have asked the guy to try and get some pictures of the parents, so hopefully pretty soon.
