Cheap 30 gallon tanks

cornsnakes101

Two Corns and Growing!
Does anyone know where I can find cheap 30 gallon long tanks I bought two UTH's yesterday and now need two tanks to put them on. I don't want to use them on the 55 gallon and the 30 gallon that has a cracked side I own. I also read that you can put UTH's on tubs is that true? I also have a rheostat thats controlling the two heat lamps that I have right now. These are for my two yearling corns

I did but they have a bunch of 100 gallon etc. like one 30 gallon but overpriced, sometimes I hate craigslist lol.

Most people on Craig's list for me want 50 bucks for a 10gal tank, so I rarely check it because it's a waste of time.

Also, you CAN put UTHs on tubs; it's recommended that you use a dimmer or rheostat for them though.

Also, I would check Petco and Petsmart. A few years back I bought a 20gal long tank for 50 bucks and remember that 10gals were about 20. I checked last night and a 10gal at Petco is 14 bucks (12 at Walmart). Petsmart has decent prices on glass tanks at a glance. Definitely check Walmart as well, but they mostly have fish starter kits and 10gals.

Would a 20 gallon house an adult corn? I heard 29/30's housed adult corns. Also I don't want to buy a 10 gallon when I would have to buy another expensive tank in the future. I kinda want to go with tubs but I want to have two pretty tanks lol. My local pet store sells used tanks all the time, I just asked them and they told me every two weeks they get in alot of 30 gallons for like twenty bucks each.

I got both of our 30 gallon tanks off CL, WITH stands and hoods, for $50 each. I'd keep trying--and look in places other than the pet section. Also, "tank" or "fish tank" are good search words, as well as "aquarium", "terrarium" and "vivarium"

When I go looking, I not only check out the Pets section, but also the entire For Sale section, choosing to search for my keywords, and checking "with photos", so I can actually see what they have.

Anyway, good luck. I'm sure that if you keep looking, you'll find what you want. Heck, I've even seen them for free (of course, never when I was actively looking for one, though....)

I did a check for "hamster" on CL - a lot of people keep their little fuzzies in tanks, and refer to them as hamster cages. I got a 20-gallon-long with repti-carpet, log, hide, screen lid, water dish and UTH for $15 using that search!

Nice grab.

Also, a 20 gal long tank is considered big enough for an adult corn. If you have an adult corn that is one of the bigger specimens (5-6ft), I would recommend a 30gal. However, I remember reading somewhere that if you handled an adult corn quite a bit every day (besides after meals) you could keep it in a 10gal. Not sure about that though.

I just did that and apparently no one in Albuquerque loves hamsters lol but there is a guinea pig for sale, had to restrain myself from jumping on that(I used to breed cavies).

Thanks thats good info and clears a couple things in my mind.. I think I'm just gana get a two 30 gallons just to be safe. O yea I was searching eBay earlier and searched for zoo med repti-therm UTH's and they are way cheaper there than Petsmart/Petco I paid 80 bucks for two 30-40 gal. size ones the other day... I'm going to go return those and save the 30 bucks buying from ebay, just thought I'd share that.

30s for $20???? ARe you nuts? That is the cheapest I have ever heard for 30 gals. For corns you need to make sure its long not tall. They need more "leg" room than "head space" if ya know what I mean.

Why are you switching to 30 gal tanks? The 55-gal is fine for your yearling if you have the space for that size viv. You can put hot glue or aquarium sealant on the crack, which smooths the rough places and keeps it snake-friendly.

That's correct, but be very careful if you go this route. Apart from the fire safety issues, it's extrememly easy to overheat a plastic tub. There are also more chemical fumes/vapors released by hot plastic than by cool plastic. No one really knows if this is a problem or not, but as a Chemistry teacher it does make me cautious.

Nice grab.

Well, I'm sure one could keep an adult alive in a 10-gal. I'd only recommend it in an emergency situation, though.

Not sure where you read that, but to me that sounds like something along the same thinking as "goldfish only get as big as their tank"... in fact when I first started out, someone actually tried to convince me that CORNS only got as big as their tank!

If you do that, run a search for "hampster" as well - a lot of people can't spell their own pets' species!!

Ya the only reason I would put a corn in a ten gallon is if I had one laying around but where would I put aquarium sealant, just somewhere like Petsmart? And ya I wasn't too sure about the UTH on the tubs either so I've read the more popular choice is heat tape or heat wire.

Lol I did that too but none at the moment:( sad day
