Hiya,

Not sure if somewone has already posted this link. I saw it posted on a UK forum. TigerLilly is selling heat mats for cheap on ebay. Probs only relevant to people in the UK. Shes up in Scotland and i know theres a bunch of Scots on these forums. Anyways i ordered a few last week, not yet received due to bank holiday. I did receive an email tonight from TigerLilly apologising for sending the wrong mats, so she will send me the correct mats tommorrow which means i get loads for free woo. You will get discount oin postage for multiple items if you ask, she refunded mew afew quid wen i asked for a postage discount when ordering different sized mats. She had lots of sizes for sale last week, not so many left now but its worth a look....

Enjoy

That's what I put on my two new cages. They work fine so far. They don't have adhesive, or little rubber "legs" for the tank. They are supposed to be sealed so well you can put them inside a viv, and claim to not get hot enough to burn, if you size them appropriately.

Thanks for the pics Nanci, thats a really good idea. That tape looks really usefull. Looks similar to what i would class as duck tape but shiny on one side! You can see that wont come unstuck easily.

I've got those mats, and they quickly reach dangerous temperatures if unregulated. I know they claim to be water-proof but I didn't trust the seal and used them outside the tubs before I set up my rack with heatrope instead

Sorry Nanci, I misunderstood when you said that they claim not to get hot enough to burn

"Made in Scotland, these heat pads are specifically designed for the vivarium keeper. The same technology as the Flexwatt Heat Tape is used, but it has been manufactured into a pad with an additional polyurethane coating to ensure moisture resistance and durability. These pads are regulated, because of low wattage, to stay between 65 and 95F (depending on exterior temperature) thereby eliminating the need for a thermostat. However, if precise temperatures need to be achieved, use in combination with a proportional thermostat or a dimmer. Low wattage, long life and excellent cost make these heat pads great for using with herps and small animals. Comes with 6 foot cord and plug. This is a UL listed component."

But when I googled them, I found one report of 112F without even trying...

Well as long as everyone uses a thermostat they should be fine i would say. For £3 quid you can't got wrong even if its to test in an empty viv/tub just to see if they maintain safe heats!!

Yep, they get over 100 here in 'sunny' England without even trying, I'd hate to think what happens if people believe the blurb that comes with them

Yea good point, if they were unaware and used inside a viv unregulated thigns could get messy, especially on a cold day here...

To make matters worse I don't even use them now, they're stored away! Then again, I've got them as back-up if the heatrope fails

Yep, Nanci, they worked well with being controlled, before I built the ghetto rack I used them under each tub on a set of shelves. Of course at that stage I really did think I'd stop at 2 snakes, 4 snakes, 5 snakes.............
