Cherry Wood Substrate?

Hi.

I'm wondering if it is safe to use cherry wood shavings for substrate for my corn. Was browsing through the local pet shop and amongst the normal hamster bedding (pine) i saw packets labelled cherry. On asking about it, the salesman said yes, it is cherry, he said it for the smell.

I know one cannot use pine or ceder as a substrate and I have looked all over for aspen (am using paper towelling at the moment) and would like to try the cherry shavings but before I do I'd like to know that its safe for corn snakes. It smells no-where near as strong as pine, merely a bit woody. :) Any comments will be appreciated.

well ive owned 2 corns before and i used cherry on the first and he got a respiritory infection and i used coco husks on the second...he live for 19 years but i strongly suggest coconut husks...the love them !! ps. some rep plz?

Geez. You're sure gun ho for reputation. Maybe you should work on telling the truth first. Back in July you posted that you were new to corn snakes. Now you've had 2 corns and one lived for 19 years? Sorry to call you out but your posts are a bit ridiculous!

:nope:

look for aspen in the reptile section, if you cant find it a good alternative i use is recycled paper, it's in the hamster section and comes in different colors, odorless and they can burrow under it. I use both, switch her bedding once i go thru one pack just to give her some variety. You don't want to use anything with a smell because they're sense of smell is a lot stronger then ours, what smells good to you is possibly very overwhelming to them. Aspen isnt that expensive, it's where all the lizard stuff normally is. if you can't find it, just ask one of the workers in the store.

dude preston sry i meant 9 years typo dude relax! and im not new to corns im new to cornsnakes.com...u need to chill man! ur kinda hurtin my feelings!

You could try contacting a local breeder to see what they recommend.
