hey im new to this forum and i just got a snake last week.....ive got a few questions

Whenever i handle him he makes this clickingnoise likle hes sneezing....it sounds like he is sneezing but his mouth isnt moving hwats he doing

How do u give my snake a bath

If it sounds like a rattle it is the snakes tail, it is saying look at me a big bad rattler. You better back off! They do that until they get used to being handled. If you watch their tail when they do it you can see it move. Awesome engineering!!

I've never bathed my snake although I put her in the water dish after I handle her to help with keeping her skin moist for easy sheds.

Peace
Paul

I've never bathed my snakes so I can't be much help there, but I would say luke-warm, not deep water.

With the noise, listen very carefull to see where it is coming from. When snakes have respiratory infection they often make clicking sounds when they breath, which they shouldn't be doing with normal health. Other signs of respiratory infection to look for are keeping the head up, gaping, breathing with the mouth open, puffy throat, blowing bubbles or seeing mucous around the mouth.

Of course, he could just be stressed at being handled since he is new, and be trying to scare you off. Try and see if he makes the noise when you aren't holding him.

Investigate further and come back with any more questions,

Skye

If it is a respiratory infection, then you don't want to be bathing your snake yet. It can cause the RI to get worse. Try increasing the temperature of the cage to around 85 degrees. Sometimes the increase in heat will help the RI to clear up on it's own.

As for the sound itself...it is very easy to tell the difference in clicking and rattling. If the snake is rattling it's tail, you will hear a very fast sound (like a rattlesnake). You will also see the movement. Clicking is a slow, more occasional sound. You won't always see the snake's mouth move, either.
