So a few minutes ago I think I narowly avoided be chomped on by my snake! I plucked him out of his viv, as I normaly do, to feed him and as I held him I felt him buzz! His whole body. It was weird. I instanty froze and then put him back. He has never done this before and I'm not sure why he did. He did shed today. But I held him earlier today and he was fine.

Mine recently did that to me for the first time. He's telling you "not right now.".

I think it's cool. A thought came out of his little snake brain, and caused him to vibrate (his tail most likely). You guys are communicating!

It might also have been because you smelled like supper. Half of my '06 hatchlings rattle their tails at me. I've been bit lots of times as well. It doesn't really hurt when they are small, but it can be startling the first time.

The best thing to do is not give in and put them back right away - other wise you will teach the snake that it will be put back if it behaves a certain way. Just continue to hold him/her until he/she settles and then put it back into it's cage. And always wash your hands after handling any food items.

I dont know whether I smelled like food or not. But it was just weird because he is 2.5 years old and Ive had him since he was a hatchling. Maybe he was trying to sleep and I woke him up. ^_^ Who knows. hehe

I recently had my snake start tail rattling when I go to pick him up. It's nothing to worry about. Just ignore it and don't let the snake intimidate you.
