Confused on hets

Hey i just got some babies in and was wondering if you guys could help me out here ? The Mother of the Amel Motley Male baby is: Butter Het Lavender and Motley and the Father is Snow Het Motley. so that makes him het for what ? and my 2 females Mother is Normal Het-Lavender and the Father is An Amel Motley. I'm just a bit confused here trying to figure out what these babies are het for and what % any help would be appreciated Thanks :cheers:

The amel motley would be a possible het for anery, lavender, and caramel....you would have to do some breeding trials to figure out for certain what he/she is carrying.

With the two females you have 50% het for lavender, amel, and motley and 50% chance for het amel and motley

The male would be definitely het for anery, since the father was a snow.

The easiest way for you to figure it out (for future reference) is to break down the double morphs (snow = anery + amel, etc). Then, whatever traits mom or dad EXHIBIT, the babies are DEFINITE hets for (unless, of course, the baby is exhibiting that trait instead). Any traits that mom or dad are HET for, the babies are POSSIBLE het for.

That is the easy, quick way you can figure it in your head, without having to go into statistical numbers of just how likely those possibles are to really be het. You might have to write down the traits the parents exhibit and are het for the first few times. After that, it will seem natural to just break it down and figure it out.

I second what Kathy said too - I always break the morphs down to the basics because it makes things easier.
