Confused.....Slender or Chubby?

OK.....so I JUST posted about my concern of Cyrus being small (not filled out). But, I have been reading some other posts about chubby snakes. So I thought I would post some pictures and see what you all think. Now, I feel he looks great.....my only concern is the area around his vent (this picture was taken after eating and going potty). Is that normal? He is 2 years and 1month. He measures 3 ft 2 in (give or take). He weighs 321 grams. Now, heres the kicker, please no hate posts, just let me know if you think it is wrong: I have fed him 2 large mice for the last 5 months or so......after 24 hours no lump. So, the last two feeds I have given him a small rat (2 weeks apart) and he eats them just fine and after 48 hours no lump. Let me know what you think.

He does look a little over wieght. I think after pertical age the bump does not show but I may be wroung.

He looks so smug in that last pix.....lol.
I'm a total noob...but I would say he is just a bit plump.
That thinner area after his vent is normal and just his tail......I think that it looks so much thinner because the rest of him is just a bit "fluffy".
I however am a total noob.....so listen to the more experienced ones here.

I wouldn't say fat, but he does look a little chubby. Maybe best go back to mice? Rats are fattier.

There's no shame in feeding your corn rats occasionally, though your guy does seem to be packing a little extra weight. I would stick with mice and feed him every 11 days or so.

Once they're on adult mice, the visible lump guideline no longer applies. Otherwise you'd be feeding them ever-larger meals throughout their lives!

A Corn usually doesn't need to eat anything larger than an adult mouse once every 10-14 days. You'll always find exceptions to the rule, but I'd say that from the look of your chap, he'd be fine on one adult mouse at a time. No need for rats unless he really is a major exception and turns out to be a giant amongst Corns (they can be "big" without being "fat" - think football players).

I love his colours! :)

But, yeah, he does look like he's getting chubby. Once he puts the weight on, it can be hard to get off, so you would be well advised to cut him back to an adult mouse every 2 weeks and get him more active too (just bring him out as much as you can and let him crawl around you). As has been said, rats are fattier, so even giving him a rat the same size as a mouse can make him put on too much weight.

Thanks for the repsonse guys! I will definatly stop feeding until I see the "buldge"! I don't want to do anything to hurt my little guy!! I will cut him down to one large mouse every 14 days until he silms down a bit and then I will bump him up to one large mouse every 10days!

I love his colours! :)

Thanks.....I think he is rather handsome!!! LOL! He has changed so much since I got him as a teensy tinsy worm! He was so orange and very little white........now he has so much white!!!! My babys growing up!!!

"He" looks fine to me, and there's nothing wrong with your feeding! The only thing I notice is the short, small tail makes me think it's a female. Have you had it probed?

I agree with Bitsy, and am really glad you asked now, before your lovely snake got hips! Cyrus is totally gorgeous, such strong red colouring!

I have not had him probed, so he could be a she. The person I bought him from popped him and said he thought it was a boy. His tail is short, but I accidentally caught about a quarter inch of it in a deli cup lid and died and fell off.

I have some corns with the more bulgy belly but they are all female if I'd have to tell the gender by head. Maybe 1 or 2 males but I don't think so. My males have flat bellies I belivee. But they do get fed less often. What gender is your corn?

(did not read the last post, sorry)

If the guy only thinks it was a male after popping, he surely did not proper it right if it is a male. When you pop a male right, you can always see that. If he is not sure, he might have seen the glands at the sided of the vent females have. Sometimes they are pink or red and might be mistaken for small hemipenises.

Definitely not thin!! He's gorgeous, though!! His read is so brilliant!! And his yellows are almost lime green.
