Getting a 20 gal long All Glass Critter Cage tomorrow for my corn. I have read to cover 1/4 to 1/3 of the bottom with a UTH. So far no problems I understand that I get confused when it comes to wattage. The tank is approximately 30 inches long and 15 inches wide. That means my UTH would have to be 15 inches wide by 7.5 to 10 inches long or as close as I can get. The wattage on this size UTH seems awful high. Can any body help me out here. A zoomed 10 to 20 gallon UTH is only 6x8 inches and does not have wattage listed. Big Apple has a 13.8 in. by 7.9 in. Intellitemp Reptile heat mat that is 20 watts. I just don't know wich way to go on this. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

get a zoo med 10 to 20 gallon and a thermostat. the uth will get WAY to hot without one. don't worry about wattage. the above works PERFECT! i have two tanks set up this way with perfect temps and happy snakes. hope this helps

I've got the ZooMed 10-20 gallon UTHs & they seem fine for 20Ls. The big issue is to control the temperature, as those UTHs will run over 100F if not on a rheostat or thermostat.

agreed wstphal! i've also found that the "store bought" rheostats dont lower the temps to a safe level for some reason. i bought the repti temp 500r (fairly inexpensive) and it saved me alot of intial headaches.

I've done OK with rheostats for now. I am sure I will upgrade as the temps vary more than I would like but they aren't going over 92F so that should be OK for now. I am a little short of cash at the moment, but am saving my $ diligently because I need a RACK and that will be on a Herpstat. Then I get to save some more for MORE SNAKES after that. I have a long wish list of corn snakes & I want a hog, a cali king & then, once I have space for a big viv, a boa.
