Considering getting a ball python..

Hi all,

We are considering getting a ball python, due to their reasonable size and good temperment. We are in the process of doing loads of research to make sure we can provide good care. We currently have a cornsnake and a chinese water dragon. I was looking for information, stories, personal experiences regarding ball pythons to help us make up our minds for sure..

Thankyou, I look forward to hearing your stories and seeing some pictures of different morphs :)

ball pythons are awesome! my first snake was a ball that we got almost a year ago ( I know, not a long time but i wasnt able to get one sooner...) We didnt know much when we got him but he was forgiving. When we got him, we put him into a 10g tank because we thought it would be a good idea and nice to have a display snake. We then figured out very soon that ball pythons really like to hide and its wiked hard to keep the humidity high enough for him. heres a pic of the tank set up we had for him then:

we moved him into a tub a few months later ( sometime last winter) and that made it so much easier to keep the humidity high (esp during sheds).

(a more recent pic of him)

Since the we have gotten two more ball pythons, a couple of normal boys:

they are a bit older then him but still adorable (tho Pistachio is deff the favorite!)

there are SO many different morphs out there- my fav is a blue eyed Leucistic, soooo gorgeous!

the only problem we've come across with our guys, is the fasting, which is normal for balls, they dont mind not eating for logn periods of time (only a BIT nerve-racking for me but i deal... ) they're also not the most handable snakes and prefer to be left alone ( tho they do like to roam at nite time which is interesting to watch :D

i dunno how much info you got out of that...sry if it wasnt informative but :shrugs: :D

Wow thanks so much, that was really helpful, and such beautiful BP's .. we were thinking of going with a bumblebee BP or a axanthic... but more research is needed :D

one stop shopping :

i love my bp and just like corns there are a ton of morphs that make you want more and more. i never have had a humidity problem but i also went w/ a cage from reptile basics.

I love my balls! LOL! Seriously, they're great snakes if you're willing to deal with their pickiness. Tink's first BP looks EXACTLY like my Sauron! I also have an 09 and an 07 normals. My favorite morphs are the bumblebee,BEL,and now that beautiful axanthic bee that I just saw! My God,that's a beautiful snake!
