constricting problems

I haven't seen any posts on here about that, so I figure I'll ask it. My corn (about 1.5 years old) gets fed live mice every saturday (hoppers), and his "constriction" method is lacking at best. He strikes the mouse just fine, but he can never (or rarely) get a good coil around the mouse, it usually takes him 2 or 3 times of wrestling the mouse around until he gets a good squeeze. I've tried feeding F/T, and he just seems disinterested, so I stick to live. My worry was the mouse might bite him, but every time he attacks, he always secures the head first, so no problems there. Has anyone else had problems with their snake not being able to get a good wrap up on the first go around?? I'm not sure if this is common, but I'm curious as to why he's so 'challenged'. He does not seem to have any vision problems (he strikes at my hand just fine!), and there are no eye caps or any shed left to interfere. Thoughts are welcome!
