Containers for Hatchlings??

Dragontails

I was wondering what everyone uses for housing for hatchlings? We bought Walmarts "Mainstays" sandwich containers because they are reletively cheap. (3.95 for 16 containers) I was curious to see what everyone else uses as this is my first year breeding and I dont know if it is better to keep the snake in the container you are shipping out in?

I think sandwich containers work great for corn hatchlings. I have a rack full of about 50 of them and I bought little water dishes that have room under for a hide from the pet store.(thoes were .99 ea, but will last for ever and are easy to clean) I have found that they can get pretty smelly fast because they are small, so make sure you put a lot of ventalation (drill holes) in them. For some ,the toughest part may be finding water dishes short enough to fit in them and or hides. I use my hatchling rack mostly for problem feeders and high end morphs, otherwise I group them in critter cages from wal mart ($9ea), so they have more room to move. I don't like to keep them in the racks for too long, but it's room enough for a small 8-10" hatchling for a month or so. The other problem for some with the sand. containers is how to heat them. I have a temp.'d room so I don't have to worry about it. I am not sure, maybe heat tape would work, but I would be nervous with such a small surface area that it would get to hot. Good luck with the hatchlings!

That was a good question, and a good answer. I'm expecting my first ever pippies towards the end of June and am frantic trying to build a rack system in time. I may just end up getting the basic setup done with simple shelves, heat tape and small containers for a while. I hope not. Good luck to you.
