Cool Mouse Patterns

This sounds weird but I was looking for a breeder(my snake and a friends supply I was going to breed pre killed mice for.) but anyway I was looking for mice with cool patterns....If I am going to have em they might as well have cool colors

Well easier said than done. All I can find are white mice and cream and dark colored. I wanted the patched pattern ones....whats that color called pied? pinto lol j/k...

Anyway I was thinking post pictures of any of your cool looking feeder/breeders. Once I find one I will post some pics!

my snake and a friends supply I was going to breed pre killed mice for.

I wish you the best of luck. I raise my own mice and I have found that almost 100% of the time, I can't get my male mice interested in pre killed females. On those rare occasions when they do, it turns out the the females are crummy mothers anyway.

I think you would have better luck if you try raising live mice and pre killing them after. I guess then they would be post killed mice.

I'm sorry, I guess I don't know how to raise pre killed mice.

Haha you know what I meant!lol:duck:

FInd a local feeder breeder or reptile show, thast's where I have obtained all sorts of interesting mouse morph genes.

My favorite currently is a brown and white cow-spotted long hair satin female. Shge just gave birth so I can't get any pics right now.

I've been meaning to take some photos of some of my breeder mice. Now I have a reason to do so. I also like the patterned ones but it took me years to finally get the gene pool to produce some. But now that it has, I'm refining the look even further. Most are more white with colored spots (black and/or brown) but I have 2 males that are more black with white that I like the best. Oh, and I have absolutely no clue about mouse color names or genetics. I just kept what I liked. I did finally set up one colony with all patterned mice. The others are "mixed".

Hi There!!

I would be careful about getting patterned mice (ie. brown and white, black and white etc). Some strains are prone to a disease of the colon (Masticolon or something like that). Just make sure the ones you get are okay. :)

I lost ALL my coloured mice like that...now I just have my African Soft Furred Rats, I LOVE them! lol They are MUCH better smelling than mice are!! lol

It's "megacolon", but I don't seem to be noticing anything different going on with the patterned mice versus the other mice in my colonies. Maybe I've just been lucky!

Anyway, I was able to take some photos of many of the patterned mice in my colonies, as well as a few that I just find to be interestingly colored. Here are some...

And one more group, including the obligatory cute factor.

That is way cool Susan, I like the colors. Now take a step back and lets see a picture of the cage I can see in the background.

lovely looking mice, I am the same I currently have two breeding cages and only tend to get the normal white and brown mice from here as well. My new brown mice has just had a litter with some cute black ones with browns bellies which I am tempted to keep for further breeding.

I agree though if you are going to breed them different colours are better than the normal colours.

I used to get lots of interesting markings, but now I am concentrating on one, the banded mouse ... ideally they should have a band of white across the back and belly like it's been painted on. Most of them have raggedy edges or drags on the marking but as you see with the babies, I'm getting better ones now. The idea is to have the mouse as big and typey as possible - big ears, nice head structure, etc, difficult to breed for that and the even band at the same time, but good fun.

That is our old chameleon cage hubby made from an old hydroponics unit. We haven't used it in about 8 years since selling all the chameleons and it's current use is just storing stuff that might blow around during a hurricane. The wood bees have had a field day with parts of it and it would need alot of repairs to be used again for housing any type of critter. Hubby is thinking of free-range chickens, but I don't think that is a wise idea...too many wild critters. If 3 cats were killed outside within a few days of letting them outdoors, what chance does a chicken have.
