crazy for corns
recently we have clicked on the heating system at my house, and the entire house stays at a consistent 78 degrees, including in the room where my snake is and in his tank. the warm side stays at 88, with the cold at room temperature of 78.

i know the suggested temp range for corns is 85-75. i didnt think three degrees would make any difference, but you never know.

i just wanted to check with you guys and see if that temp range (88-78 incase you missed it earlier) is harmful for my snake. and if it is, is there anything commercially available to cool the tank? an under tank cooler or something?

How are you heating the viv, and if with a UTH, do you have it on a thermostat? Where and how are you measuring the 88 degrees?

i am using a UTH. i am measuring the 88 degrees warm side with a reptile thermometer, pushed into the substrate (wood chips) a little bit. same with the 78 cool side.

But no thermostat, I'm guessing? What is the temp right on top of the UTH? 88 is a little high, higher than I'd be comfortable with. It really doesn't give you very much room for error at all. Possibly, when you measure right on the UTH, on the glass, it may be even higher than 88. They can easily get up into the 110-120 range. I guess I'd get a thermostat as soon as you can.

forgot to mention its one of the fancy models that has a thermostat built in. its never more than slightly warm to the touch, i check it regularly because i still dont completely trust the internal thermostat.
