Sneaky little buggers. I am an not sure if they slither off and hide, when they see you coming. They can probably feel the vibration of your movement, long before they see you. They can't hear you. No ears! So, who really knows?
One question though, Why are you trying to sneak up on them? Are you planning on jumping out and yelling, BOO?!?!? LOL!
Mine hide sometimes, but oother times they just look at me like hey what the hell are you and go on about their business. However, when I first got them I never saw them EVER so maybe yours is taking extra time to settle in.
Actually, they CAN hear. There are several threads here about the topic. I'm sadly on dial-up at the moment, and the search function takes aeons for me to use or I'd find them and post a link.
We've discovered that, though there are no external ears, there are acoustic canals and membranes internally. (I personally felt vindicated for all the times I've talked to my snakes when I found this out! lol)
Mine don't leave when they hear me coming, but turning on a light at night will chase the shy young ones into hiding.
Hmm. Wayne, you say they have no ears huh?!?!
Bcuz I was just going to post about whther or not (on my 3 hour drive home for spring break) if it's okay to play music in my car while driving?
If it is bad for the snake I won't obv
They cannot hear in the same manner as animals with ears. However, they can "hear" via vibrations, etc. (through ground or air).
If you play your music, at a reasonable level, it should be fine ... I just wouldn't go "blasting" the volume.
