the only other exp. I have with snakes is my ball python. she is usually in one of her hides yet will come out and investigate when im in the cage.

I have an adult corn (sex unknown) that is constantly in its hide (flexible drain type). the only time it pops its head out is when I had food. I have to literally shake it out of the hide.

is this normal? ive had it about a week and have handled it twice and have fed it once since then.

In some snakes, yes that is normal. If you have only it for a week you really shouldn't have handled it at all. A new snake should have at least 7-10 days of no handling to get used to its new home.
