corn falls asleep inmy hand

Butterz

Part Human, Part Reptile
my little hunter falls asleep in my hand.i handle her ALOT. sometimes i take her out while watching tv or relaxing and she just falls asleep in my hand. one time i had her out for 1 hour on my hand. she was sleeping. does this happen to you or does hunter just like sleeping? :boring:

Sometimes one of my corns (Sienna) will fall asleep if I have her out for a long period of time and I'm not very active (i.e. watching tv). My other ones spend most of their time out cruising around, and never sleep when out of their viv. Sienna was always the most laid back of all my corns though...maybe you just got lucky and got a mellow hatchling too.:)

They're definitely sleeping? Wow, you two are very lucky - I need my wits about me and then some when I let the beast out of his viv!

:) Yeah Hunter has always been very calm, she never bites and always has a good attitude. but that cant match my friends baby ball python, which slept in his sweatshirt pocket for 2 hours. my friend forgot he was even in there

Candy fell asleep in my hand once. She curled up in my palm yawned put her head down and fell asleep. It was so cute! :)

My Big Boss likes to circulate around my hands, then slip up my sleeve of my long sleeved shirt and curl around my wrist. He'll stay that way for a good hour, but I don't know if he goes to sleep or is just chillin'. Half the time I'm at the computer I'm typing with a snake around my wrist. :)

Hmmmm.....

My first question for you....and maybe a stupid one...just how can you tell a snake is "sleeping?" I've never even seen my son's snake blink! ;)

TIA

The only way I can tell if my snakes are sleeping is by looking at their eyes. When they are sleeping, the pupil seems to droop a little bit...like to the bottom of the eye. Also, they are not responsive to slow movements near their head. However, if you start waving things around frantically around their head they realize something is up and their pupil snaps back into focus and they usually lift their head up and try to figure out whats going on.

Give it a try sometime. :)

Corn snakes cannot blink because they have no eyelids. There's a clear scale over the eye that seals in moisture. When your snake sheds, you'll see eyecaps; uber spiffy!

Thx!

Cool, thanks for the info! We've seen Cocoa Butter shed once since we got her this summer as a 5-6 month old hatchling, and got to see the blue eyes and a nice all-in-one-piece shed. She's been just the coolest snake....turns her head to see us when we enter the room, gives us "snakey kisses" when we hold her (I know she's only "smelling" us, but they feel like little kisses :) ), makes us laugh with her system of tunnels (head peeking out here, tail over there, no snake in between), and amazing feats of bravery as she takes yet another header from the top of her viv. (The "thumps" in the middle of the night. :grin01: )

My hypo, Tsuki will just sit in my hand and look around taking everything in most of the time I hold her. She will cruise around a bit too but she mostly just looks around. Don't think she's ever fallen asleep though, but I don't handle her a ton yet, I have only had her a week and I only handle her about 10 minutes at a time so far.

James, my 18month old 'falls asleep' up my trouser leg while I watch TV.

He finds the nice 'nook' under my knee, curls up and is there for a couple of hours while I watch the box.

He'll even curl up in my sleeve or round my belly (on my spare tyre) while I do things round the house.

My little-un is only 3 months old, so she gets handled for only about 5-10minutes a time. Tiamat, looks like she's going to be a ghost.

Hunter doesn't sit still for 1/2 second, so I know hes not asleep *giggles* treasure on the other hand, will fall asleep in my hand when I watch TV, or curled up around my neck when I'm at the computer. If he could snore, he would... I know it! LOL

Treasure always gives me "snakey kisses" on the tip of my nose, everytime I take him out =) Its the cutest =)

No way dude/dudet my corn Cuervo does not sit still long enough to fall asleep, when I take him out he bolts for the floor :sidestep: .

I've tried chillin with him in front of the tv, but he always tries to mission for the floor. Needless to say I dont get to watch much tv beacause im forever chasing after him cause i cant afford to loose him
Problem is, my girlfriend doesnt like snakes much, when she comes over and I do take him out, guess where he wants to go... He absolutely loves her, but she freezes up when he gets close

Only time he's relaxed is in his viv. You guys who's corns sleep in your hands or on your laps are really very lucky, maybe one day Cuervo will too. :shrugs:

my kiki used to cruise all the time in my hands. but recently she has calmed down so much, she almost always falls asleep in my hands. which gets me worried again, is there something wrong with her? could they actually "oversleep"?

I've never had any of my corns fall asleep in my hand, but obviously, some are more mellow than others and are content to hang around my shoulders. Others are completely "flighty".

My new pewter male just wants to "get back home". Given that, and given that "everything is grey" and not all black and white, I had to name him Odysseus. :)

regards,
jazz
