Corn not eating......again

Hello,

I have a corn snake that I purchased late in 2005. He was 3 years old at that point and used strictly for breeding. During the spring of 2006 he stopped eating for about 2 1/2 months (mid-march to end of May). After doing a bunch of searches on this forum I found out that it's quite normal for corn snakes to stop eating during breeding season in the spring. Sure enough, he started eating normally when June came around. This spring (2007) came and went without any problems. He ate normally so I thought everything was good. However, he completely stopped eating during the second week of June and still hasn't eaten as of today. He's displaying the same behavior he did last time, namely being EXTREMELY active in his cage, so I assume it's because he's looking to mate again. I thought mating was done in the spring. Is it normal for him to want to mate in the summer rather than spring this year or should I be concerned about something else?

Thanks for your help.

I've heard of some corns mating in the summer, but not many.
Don't worry corn can months without food if they had to. Just keep offering him every once in a while and don't handle him for a while.

My tri-color hog has been on a feeding strike for a couple months. He's very active. My Florida king had a couple week strike about a month ago, and was difficult to get to eat last week, and now refused last night. I'm not worried. My corn, Maizey, did the feeding strike for the first time last year, but it was mid summer to early fall. I was having a heart attack. I tried everything to get him to eat, and what finally did it was FK mice, but maybe it was just the right time for the strike to be over, anyway...

I have a full growen corn snake. He has no eated for close on 3 months. He was racing around the tank for 2 weeks brought him back to pet shop to mate. Got him back and for a week he was great. Bought a female and a bigger tank. He is alot more happer with company. He has got a good healty look about him. Has shed 3 time's in the time the time he has not eaten. It is a big worry that ypur snake has not eated, as long as the guy is healty that is a plus. I keep a close eye on them both, making sure that when I offer food I do not go to close to the tank. I have not handled either of them in a while, just to see if less handling will get him eating and with Very new housing around that might settke him.

Most people wouldn't recommend co-habbing to get a snake eating again........

Not to mention you have no idea if the snake is really "happy"
And you do realize they can mate more than once now? What are you gonna do when the eggs hatch? :(

Hmmm

I personally would not do this myself for stress on the snake, eating, mating, and responsibility reasons. I don't have the means at the moment to fully take care and give any hatchlings to a good home, as snakes in my area are a rarity. Maybe you would be able to I am not to judge, just be careful, what some consider a snake being "happy" is the snake actually upset and being stressed.

If you're really getting worried that his health is suffering you could always try feeding live. If you don't like the risk of feeding live adults just feed him a live hopper or two, he'd probably take them.

Or even fresh killed. My picky guys will eat FK, usually, but I don't want to re-parasitize them, so I'm not doing that again now that they are worm free.
