The only time I fed live pinkies they just struck and ate. My amel always constricts, all my others, sometimes. On an interesting side: I don't feed live because I don't think it's safe, but my female who just laid, was not interested in food at all. Stephen suggested trying live to jumpstart her appetite. She's always been fed f/t her whole life, and sometimes she'd constrict, and sometimes not. She took the live mouse in an instant. Struck and constricted without the mouse even being able to get out a squeek. Constricting is instinctive and I think they know if they need to or not. Can't wait to get her back on f/t though. I don't breath easy with a live one in there. She's so thin I can't imagine she has much energy, but she didn't have any problem at all. Just goes to show....we may be domestically breeding them, but wild instinct still lives on!
