Corn snake just sitting there with its head up

Hey, I'm just a bit confused about what my corn snake is doing. Sometimes when he's not hiding and just chilling in his tank he'll get into this position where his head is held up slightly(unsupported) and just stare off for a while. It looks like how he would normally poke his head out and scout around but he stays like this completely still for over an hour if undisturbed.

I heard he could be something called "stargazing" but I'm not sure since he isn't pointing directly up. Here's a picture:

Star Gazing refers to snakes born with neurological disorders that makes them lose their balance and move erratically.

What your snake is doing is just being a snake. He's acting perfectly normal.

Below is a picture of my snake I took one day as he sat that way for a long time.

Stargazer looks something like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DL-arBm9Qxw
I know they breed them to test other snakes' stargazing but it's so sad to look at a snake in this condition... :( Most end up euthanased.

It's a neurological defect. They seem not to be able to tell up and down, do this spasmic head arching backwards and have erratic movement like Karl said.

Your snake is totally fine. Just being a snake. They sometimes do stare like that for hours.

One of our snakes used to do this every time we saw her in the pet store. She was very inquisitive and would poke her head out of her hide and lift it up as if to get a better view of us. It's one of the things that really endeared us to her.
