Corn Snake Rack System Project.

Greetings,

I am looking to start a project of building my own rack system for my four snakes. I would like to make sure that they have enough room to be comfortable, yet I would like to also make sure that I will have enough room left over to still have a small breeding project to take off.

I have heard of different setups with the rack system(s), such as making sure that I give my female snakes a bigger area than my male. I am assuming because you will introduce the male into the female's area to breed her. While on the same token I have heard that I could have both male and female in the same sized tube. Separate ones of course :p.

If anyone can please give me some pointers, or help me with this project it would be greatly appreciated.

Males and females have the same cage size needs so I see no reason to make one bigger. When you introduce them you probably don't want extra space, you want them to be confined together to ensure higher chances of them hooking up.

Ah ok, so with that being said, what would be the "Ideal" homemade rack system and what materials would be best to look at for that?

Matthew, thanks for the link to your rack design. If you've posted it before, I must have missed it.

I'm thinking of either selling some snakes, or buying/making another rack. (I think the new rack is going to win out!)

Looks pretty straightforward, and at a reasonable cost.

Hi Kathy,

Thanks - I posted it here when I first made it several years ago, but it long fell off the pages. I also have plans for a display viv with 2 cages on my site as well, which can be made for ~$100 not including heat. I think they'd be helpful plans for a lot of new people, but didn't want to appear to "self promote" and repost them again.

If you go for it, please feel free to ask questions along the way!

@blue apple reptiles I like the simple easy to replicate design of your racking system.
Easy instructions to follow also.
Many thanks for allowing people like me to recreate your design
Nick
