Hiya
can anyone tell me if there is any way that you can tell if a corn snake has finished laying eggs and yes this is a shock to me iv not had her long and b4 anyone says no i didant plan on breeding her just yet but it seems to have already of happend b4 i got her im just after a little advice not anyone moaning at me
Thankyou

Well first of all congratulations on the clutch. I hope to hear all about it! I had my first "planned" clutch this year myself. It was pretty standard though so I can't give toy any comparison to what a possible problem laying would be. In my case she started at about 4 in the morning and was done laying 17 good eggs at around 2-3 pm I think. When she was done she had stopped coiling around and acting restless. It took me forever to get her separate from the clutch because she was content to not move an inch wrapped around her clutch. I hope that helps and that you girl is fine. So give us clutch details and pics! LoL

It's possible that she was bred, before you obtained her, but ...the eggs could be slugs instead. Female snakes can lay a clutch, even without being bred, but, if not bred, the eggs are slugs (infertile).
To check to see if she still has anymore eggs... use a very thin cloth (satin or silk thin, although it need not be silk/satin) between your fingers and the snake's belly. Apply just a wee bit of pressure (not much needed with a cloth). If you feel any lumps (in shape of an egg), then she, very likely, is not done laying. If you do not feel any, then, of course, she should be done.;)
Give her some time, before checking, if the eggs were just freshly laid.

Find out as much as you can about incubating, caring for the female and hatchlings. If you haven't get Kathy & Billy Love's book,

http://www.amazon.com/Corn-Snakes-C...0706/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1304697521&sr=8-1

there is a great section on breeding in there, it's what I've been using. Also look up threads regarding eggs and incubating on here. And make sure you have enough food to feed the little ones when they hatch. So you'll get amels and snows form that clutch maybe? Good Luck!

Will look forward to seeing the little ones.
With an Amel, crossed with a Snow, you should get all Amels het Anery. If the female happens to be het Anery, you will get Snows and Amels het Anery.
Wishing you the best of luck.:)
