Corn stays in cool end all the time

I have a yearling cornsnake ( my first snake) who I have had now for about 6 weeks. He is eating very well, no probs with shed so far, seems happy. When I first brought him home he used to move from the warm end hide to the cool end hide from time to time, the way I know they should. This past week though , although he is feeding readily, he has remained right up in the cool end for several days. I am a little concerned that he is not ( or doesnt seem to be ) thermo regulating himself. It has been over a week since I saw him at the warm end. I wondered if my 'warm end' was too warm.... but it is between 82 - 85 and the cool end 76 or so. I must say he seems fine, and I guess if he is happy there and is eating ok perhaps I am worrying too much. I have read though that for good health the snake must be able to thermo regulate. can anyone make any comment on this to reassure me. Thank you.

Are there hides on both sides, or did something change on the warm side of the tank? A snake's instinct to hide is stronger than their instinct to be the right temp, so something on the warm side may have made him nervous to go back there. Aside from that, you probably don't have anything to worry about. When he is too cool, he'll go back. Good luck with him!

Mine hangs out at the cool end and has snice I have had her. Cornsnakes do like cooler temps. I would not worry about it.

My year-old corn does the same thing and he's fine. He eats like crazy, is easy to handle, and he sheds perfectly. I'm still a "rookie," but I'd have to say that based on my experience there's no harm in the snake spending almost all of his time on the cool side.

All the best,

Mike

PS I've noticed that once or twice after eating a nice fat fuzzie, my corn might spend two or so hours on the warm side of the viv. But....he then always heads over to the cool side!

Thank you all very much and I do feel re - assured. Nothing particularly happened on the warm side and yes I do have one long hide that stretches across both temp ranges. (eg. one end cooler than other ) and he used to move from one end to the other. I did however put a new piece of furniture in the viv recently... a kind of small log with holes interlinking almost like a small climbing frame. BUT.... and here is the but... I put it at the cooler side of the viv, so it prob isnt that which put him off the warm end. He likes it by the way and when active uses it to crawl over and gets good exercise from it I think. Anyway.. I feel better about things after reading all your comments. Tonight he went to the loo and it was all quite normal ( if you can call it normal ! ) so not too much can be wrong I guess :)

I sleep with my snakes (just kidding) no really, if I get up in the middle of the night, I always notice movement especially to the warmer side if the evening is cool. It's just like when it is really hot here, I come home and everyone is in their water bowls. I am adding my "no worries" to the list of others. Sam ~~~~~~~~:~
