corncob bedding

Corncob bedding isn't very good. This is quoted from a corn snake caresheet:

Corn cob bedding (manufactured for use with birds) should not be used as a substrate because it causes excessive drying of dermal tissues and can cause serious intestinal blockage if swallowed

I've also heard that it gets moldy when wet.

It seems to dry out the snake's skin. I have seen snakes with corn cob bedding soaking for much longer periods of time compared to snakes on paper towels or aspen.
Also, if you don't clean the poop up right away or if you accidentally spill some water on the bedding, it will begin to stink and get all moldy in a few days. Yuck

I have used it for 2 years with absolutely no problems whatsoever. It is excellent for absorbing both odor and mositure, and I have never had a problem with it molding. It is also very scoopable. Neither of my snakes has ever had a bad shed while using it either. But I do NOT feed my snakes in the tank with the corncob bedding in it.
