Cornsnake being "affectionate"?

Swamp Donkey

New member
Hey guys! Im new here and have a 2 yr old albino cornsnake named Cheeto. I got this snake as a hatchling for my ex girlfriends daughter, when we broke up, she left the snake behind (score!). So I spared no expense and did my homework to ensure that my little orange and yellow snake was happy and healthy.
Fast forward to the present. Cheeto is 3 feet long and as gentle and happy as she was as a hatchling. heres the deal:

The snake will actually seek me out. Its a little unsettling for my new girlfriend but the snake will actually come TOWARD a person and apparently want to be held.
The snake truely seems to enjoy interacting with people. This seems hella anthropomorphic, but it happens every time.
Do you guys have any similar experiences with your corn snakes???

Yes, I've got an adult corn snake that is extremely interested in me until she finds out that I'm not food, and I'm not bringing food. Then she just doesn't care.

Most of our snakes are like that, they even give us nose kisses!!

HA! Ok then my snake isnt a weirdy. Yeah we get "kisses" too. Cheeto will hover around your face and flick his tounge on every square inch.
But yeah, if we put her down on one side of the room, she comes straight toward you, if you move, she intercepts and climbs on you.
She is pretty used to being handed her thawed, vitamin-dusted mice so it could be a food thing.
It sure seems remarkably simmilar to the reaction that my dogs have when I get home, like true affection.
Like right now, at this moment, shes wrapped around my upper arm and nosing around in my hair:) Typical Cheeto lovin.

I can't say anything about affection, but with frosted mice of good quality, a corn doesn't need extra vitamins. In fact, they can be pretty dangerous, since the reptil is unable to secrete liposoluble vitamins, when there is too much. The accumulation can lean to organ damage.

nose kisses
hehe. Your nose is the hottest part of your face, with heat coming off your nostrils, and they hunt by heat (amongst other things). It's the part of you most worth checking out to see if it's dinner! I've actually been bitten on the nose before now by my Jemima, who's permanently hungry.

Corn Snakes can express a preference for an individual person when there are others around. I've concluded it's because owners are recognisable by smell as a) a familiar safe place and b) a potential source of food.

I reckon everything mine do is down to instinct and is nothing to do with affection or any kind of emotional tie to me as a person.

My Anery is like this. He LOVES being out with people. Hates being put back in the cage. And when he is out.. if someone is near by.. he will stretch himself.. completley straight in the air.. to the next person. Lol He is my Slithering Puppy dog ;)

And perhaps your breath is a further scent cue as to "oh, this is the big weird monkey that feeds me & doesn't eat me!" so the snake is tasting your facial scent to make sure you're you and not some dangerous monkey! LOL

Hmmm.... I don't think they really need to get that close to do that. Or look quite that enthusiastic....!

My darkling currently being called a ghost (will know for sure with breeding trials later down the line) seeks me out. Hides when anyone else reaches in, but when I reach in he climbs up my hand to my wrist and loops like a watch band until my hand is clear of his viv. Then he seeks out my face, focusing on the area where my eyes are. Doesn't really go near my nose. . . Is this affection? Don't know, but I am the only one he does it with. There are 5 people in my household.
