Cornsnake plays dead!!

So earlier today our 1 week old hatchling did a houdini and escaped.. so we decided to let the night draw him out. Sure enough he pops out to find our 2 cats waiting for him! After hearing a comotion we ran in to find the little baby corn lay on its back playing dead (completely lifeless with tongue stuck out). We've seen this behaviour from other snake breeds but never a corn. Have you guys had any experience with corns playing dead?

I have never heard of that behavior in a corn snake. Did you check him over thoroughly to make sure he isn't injured?

Yep checked last night 3 times and he's been checked today he's fine wandering round his tub.. I've never seen it either I know it's common with hognose snakes but not corns. He's back to being a very happy snake

Could be less 'playing dead' and more that it was 'knocked silly'. Especially if you found it after a commotion with a cat or a dog. Cats tend to pick up and then swing snakes around to stun them.

Hmm maybe your right I never thought of that. Poor snake :( he really does seem ok. Will just hope for the best thanks for the input.

Update on the hatchling 'scratch' well I didn't want to disturb him anymore and it was the babies first feed so I dropped it in and left him to it.. this morning I've returned to find 2 haven't eaten out of the 9 but scratch has :) so hopefully he's going to be OK after his dramatic start
