cost of housing a corn snake?

How much, weekly or monthly does it cost to house a corn snake. I ask because I am in college and I only have so much money, but i want to get a corn snake. How much, roughly, am I looking a spending a month to take care of one. Keep in mind I have most of the start-up stuff (tank, hides, water dishes) from a previous pet.

Well, you really need a UTH and a thermostat, or at least a make-your-owm rheostat. Then figure six mice a month for, at the very worst, $1 a mouse. And the perfect thing would be to have $200 set aside for a vet emergency, but, right, you're talking to the person with $5 in savings right now...

$5 bucks should last a corn in aspen for atleast 6 months.

*kicks self in pants* I just spent $12 at the pet store for a bag of aspen not even a quarter the size of that one! Darn it! Lesson learned.

Got a Blue Seal Feed store in your area, Crikey? I know they carry horse bedding. Not sure exactly where in Red Sox Nation you are, but look up Paris Farmer's Union too!

Don't forget to check craigs list for cheap tanks. Or you could use a blanket box. Lots of folks here use them. I set up my tank for maybe $120, but $40 of that was on a "snake starter kit" that was pretty much a waste of money at this point. It came with a water dish and a log hide way too big for a baby, but they will be useful for an adult. It did have a bag of aspen and a UTH for a 10-20 gallon tank though so it wasn't a total loss. You could also go the route of blanket box "tank", newspaper substrate, and toilet paper tube hides for an ultra cheap set up! As for food, I think I spend more on my frozen fish food every month then I do on Sweetie's pinkie mice. :)
