Ok, I had to go to the petstore today to pick up a couple of things for the dog and bf's reptiles. I recently became a first time Corn Snake owner and had already been thinking about getting another one. But I had been looking at reputable breeders on line. Of course owning 6 Crested Geckos and the bf having all sorts, I had to walk by the reptiles and check them out. Big mistake. I am now the proud owner of two corn snakes.
My first snake is a snow male about a year old. This one is also a snow but I have no idea on sex or age as they really couldn't tell me. Luckily I already had a tank setup for a new one just needed to turn the heat on and add snake. Only thing I'm worried about is they had just fed the snake and I'm just hoping the ride home and new place doesn't freak it out too much to regurgitate it's meal. But they did tell me he/she is a very good eater. They just fed it two fuzzies and it acted like it wanted more. It was definitely the larger of the 4 they had.
So for now it's in the reptile room and checking out it's new digs. I'll leave it alone for the next couple days (maybe sneak a peek if it's not hiding) and hope for the best. Now to figure out a unisex name. I just now named my first one Patron. So I'll post pics after the two or three days is up, just wanted to share.

Thanks!

April

Congrats on your new purchase. I held out 3 yrs to get my second corn. then within 3 months of getting the second I got our 3rd. OH what an addiction it is!

Oh man your so lucky only leaving with one cornsnakes. It happens to the best of us, can you post pics? I'd love to see the one you bought, and or the one you've had.

I think the only thing that kept me from getting more than one was the fact I only had the one tank setup already. I hate bringing home pets and having to run around getting their home setup. lol

I'm going to wait a couple days to snap photos of the new one since it just ate, but here is a link to my post in the photo gallery section of the one I already had. Hope it works.

Funny how after doing my research on corn snakes I really wanted a bloodred, yet here I am now with two snows and I love it. My bf wants me to get a okeetee but I'm not sure. But at this rate that just might be my next purchase. lol

Thanks!

Ahh the addiction takes down another. I owned one corn for I think two years before I relaized I could get more and breed them. I then purchased three more than i think two more than another three then it just kept going(keeps going)

Another apparently sane person succumbs to Cornmania - excellent!

I adopted my first three as a trio. One of the females developed a metabolic disorder and passed away aged 5, so my then-boyfriend reluctantly agreed to me getting a hatchling to grow on and replace her (he hated snakes).

Well, I came back from the shop with three hatchlings and the rest is history. As, indeed, is the boyfriend.... :)

my boyfriend hates snakes to...I actually convinced him to buy me my first snake Maize...he hated doing so but he knew he had promised me when we got our own place I could get a snake (he just never thought he would be buying the thing..lol)..While I was at the pet store a few days ago, I saw another snake I wanted (a ball python..) but my b/f stuck to his guns and will not allow me to get another snake..I'm going to wait until we get a bigger place (since right now we only live in a one room studio apartment) and then I'm probably going to get another snake...I really want a black and white one..or a gray one..I've seen beautiful pics of all the different colors corns come in..I want something unigue but also friendly and not aggressive...I think my Maize is a female so the next one I get I would love for it to be a male..we'll see what happens...this isn't going to be for a while..

LOL@ the boyfriend! GOOD for you g/f! Any man I date will HAVE to accept the fact I have snakes and truly do enjoy having them in my life. If they can't accept that. SIANA RA! NEXT!

Ya know Maize, I've ALWAYS been one to say I want one of each "normal" phase.
But the more I see pics of anery's the more I'm thinking that will be my next purchase. Thank goodnes I don't have a hubby or b/f to tell me if I can or can't. All I have is a bank account that says. NOPE, not this month!.....lol

lol..yea my bank account has say on my snake purchases to...If I do get another one (which I probably will) I'm definitely going to do it right this time and make sure I buy all the right things before I buy the snake..So I know that will take a little saving up...as for the boyfriend being freaked...not much I can do about that...I love my b/f very much and he knows it..but he also knows I love snakes dearly to (Maize I would pretty much say is my prize pet out the little zoo we have in this one room place..3 cats, 1 dog, and my Maize...and if ya wanna count him...my b/f...lol

The lack of space for more glass tanks was keeping me from purchasing any more snakes (I had 5 corn snakes).
Until I discovered the cheapness and convenience of flexwatt and sterilite tubs.

I now have 7 corn snakes and 1 hatchling female ball python. The new corn snakes are a 1.1 pair of very nice looking Silver Queen Ghosts.
I hate the week of no contact with new snakes. I'll try feeding them on Thursday.

The only problem with Flexed is some of us have no clue if it's put on the bottom of the Viv(see"s problems with that ) and know just what it is, and how does some one like me(only owns 3 snakes) figure out if that's what you truly need with a melamine viv and if the kids say "hey we can do that". how do you get around everyting she asked.

Well, I definitely don't have to worry about the bf. He is the one who got me into reptiles in the first place. He's had so many growing up and currently has 1 Sulcata Tortoise, 2 Blue Tongue Skinks, 2 Tokay Geckos, and 1 Bearded Dragon. He has a room in his house just for the reptiles. It's quickly getting full. And we haven't even been to the big breeders expo they are having in May. lol
Now I have a room at my house just for the reptiles, but still have plenty of space for more. I'm wanting to build shelves in the room to put the crested tanks on so it will free up the table space for the snake tanks. I don't think I'll go too crazy that I'll need racks for the snakes. At least I'm hoping. lol

Now, if the bf and I ever move in together, I think we will have to sell both our houses and buy a bigger one just for the reptiles. :)

What we won't do for our pets. hehe

Ok, thought I could take a pic of the new little one without bothering it too much. Sorry it's not a full body shot but it'll give you an idea. Now just for a name.

how about "caz" shortened from the word "cazador" which means hunter in spanish? or Jager (means hunter in German) or Tasma (shortened from "fantasma" meaning ghost in Italian..hmmm...I'm very creative with names..lol...don't know if you are looking for ideas but here's a short list that I think sound good for a snake..of course the name is up to you in the end...

Schion (beautiful in german)
Cielo (heaven in Italian)
Occhi (eyes in Italian)
