Couple Of Feeding Questions

My cornsnake is about 2 months old and is still eating pinkies. My local reptile store charges $1.50 each for a pinkie mouse so my question is how long did you feed your corn pinkies before you moved to fuzzies or hoppers becuase im really tempted to bulk order but i dont know how long it will be on pinkies before i order 100 of them. I feed her every 4-5 days. Do you think it would make sense or should i just hold off and keep paying the $1.50 each. Thanks!!

That does seem to me to be very expensive for what is essentially not-a-lot of mouse. Personally I would go online and order some in bulk. They keep well in the freezer, especially if they are vacuum packed or well-sealed. When your snake needs to move up a size you can just feed 2 or 3 pinkies per feeding until you have finished that lot and buy the next size up in bulk too. Although pinkies are not as great nutritionally as fuzzies and up, it doesn't hurt to use them to finish off your current bag.

I wouldn't order 100 pinkies either. When I got my corn snake, I had the same question. Your corn snake will probably be ready for the next food size in about 3 months. I find that to be long enough for them to become accustomed to any given food size. I have always ordered from rodentpro. On their website, I noticed they say that the minimum order is 100. BUT...strangely enough, the last order I had filled was for only 10 hoppers and 6 weanlings. They filled the order with no problem at all. I would just go with rodentpro, maybe...and just order enough for about 4 months, which is the time it usually takes them to go bad (a conservative estimate) P.S. to give you an idea of how fast they grow and move through the food sizes...my snake is 13 months old...and he can eat about 2 hoppers at a time (once a week).

What I did with my snake is.....3 months for small pinkies, 2-3 months for large pinks, 2-3 months for fuzzies, 2-3 months for hoppers, etc., etc., Once you can feed him ONE of any given food size and not see a bulge in his stomach...then its probably time to move on to 2 of that food size. Once you give him 2 of a given food size and dont see a bulge...then its time to move up to the next food size. Thats how I work it. Not that I know Im right or anything...but I havent had any regurges yet.

That's how I worked mine too. I also judged it by how quickly they were out looking for food, and if they were still searching actively for food right after being fed. $1.50! That's steep. I paid .99 cents for mine, and it's cheaper if I get the frozen ones from my pet store. Adult mice don't even cost that much at my pet store.

I am not sure what company your buying from, but do they have an option of mixing sizes? if not... I am sure if you extended your search perhaps you can find one that does.

Just my 2 cents
