thats miss missy to you
i am a newbe with snakes, to be honest i am pretty scared of them,(face your fears) But i am in love with baby corn snakes. I have been reading some of the posts and i am courious, do the adult corns get agressive after they become breeders, How old do they have to be : or how much do they have to weigh How do you go about the process?

Welcome to the world of corn snakes!

Corns actually tend to be more aggressive (or defensive really) as babies than as adults. They are known to be a generally docile species, and corns normally only bite when frightened or mistaking an owner for food, or perhaps if they are disturbed when they don't want to be. Of course individual snakes are all different; they do have "personalities" and some corns will bite more frequently than others. None of my six corns have bitten me, and two of them I hatched myself. But I know I can never say never - they may at some point!

I believe the rule for breeding is the rule of 3s for a female corn - 3 years old, 3 feet long and 300 grams in weight. For a male, it is less important of course - young males (under 3), first time males and unbrumated males tend to have lower fertility.

Oh, and for advice on how to go about breeding corns the best suggestion I can make is to buy Kathy Love's book "Corn snakes - the comprehensive owner's guide" and read it; and also do as much other research on the subject as you can. It is not something to be undertaken lightly - at best it can result in your being left with a lot of hatchlings you can't sell or give away, and at worst female snakes can become eggbound and die. Having said that, it is extremely rewarding if hard work!

ok but i am still lost, I want to know how to breed them.. what do i do. when do i start. How do i do it step to step...

She just told you...buy the book and READ IT. Also use the SEARCH function on this site and read every thread you can find related to breeding. Its a lot of hard work and definitely not a get rich quick scheme. Take some time and find out everything you need to know before even contemplating it. That way you can make an informed decision and keep healthy snakes :)

hold up

okay? for one i am not in this for money.. If i breed my corns i am keeping them. I am more interested in people who have storys to tell me about how they went wrong how to do better, and from experience i dont have money to afford book and i have 3 years to get all the info i need so chill... :angry01:

Whoa!

I don't know what has everyone in such a lather today. :shrugs:

You just started on here, your posts sounding like you want all the info easy and now. That's why the comment about making money.

If you have three years to study it-then what was suggested is the best thing to do. You will find more than enough stories and information by searching the threads. And what more experienced answers or information do you want than that of Kathy Love? Anyone on here will tell you to "buy the book". Once you start researching you may have more specific questions that can be answered. And I am sure everyone would be more than happy to help. But I don't think anyone can sit down and just say here it is on such a broad topic.

No need to get yourself all worked up. Its a forum not a combat zone.

Oh oh oh, speaking of chilling. Miss Missy is having a hissy, that won't get you to darn far.. We are trying to help you out.. The suggestion you got is the one 99% of the new comers are going to get for an answer here, so no need to think you were put on the spot.. A lot of your questions have been answered on the forum already, so if you want to be accepted, I suggest you do some research before you pop the top of your cranium wide open by curseing us.. The general concensous here is for the members to learn and teach others the fine art of Corn Snake keeping, and most of us learned a lot of what we know initially by reading the Bible Of Cornsnakes by Kathy Love. The previous posters gave you the title of the Book to buy, and yes it is a must to buy, it is worth your money ( you got a snake but you don't have money.. How are you going to feed it and house it properly?? ) You don't have three years to learn to care for your new pet, you need information now. Maybe your not going to like my suggestion, but you need to stop running that mouth and shut up and start reading and getting as much information as you can. Search this site, all your answers are all ready here. Don't take what I said as being rude, because what I said is probably the most important thing for you to honestly do for yourself and your corn..

Now if you excuse, I have some searching and reading to do myself...

Regards

i am not to friendly of a person so i take by the writing and choice of words you use to effect. I have had snakes before, im not completly lost. AS far as my cursing you have not seen anything so why dont you shut your mouth before its gets you into an argument you were not even in to begin with. -k-

Your really not helping yourself any.. You want some respect? You really need to do a 180, because no one is going to take you too seriously if you want to make threats. You came looking for answers to your questions, and you were offended by the answer you got in return. What can we do to actually help you, help yourself? Seems like you came in here to be disruptful and beligerant, which atests to your posted age. What do you want us to do? Give you a hug, because you have a nasty, troll like mouth? :shrugs: I suppose you can come back flaming, cussing and screaming nasty names, but you won't be here very long and you will have then lost your opportunity to actually learn something. Don't bother to reply back if your going to have a nasty little mouth, if your serious about your questions you might take the mature approach and act like an intrested adult..

Regards..

I would suggest that you settle down. Nobody was attacking you---you asked twice in a row for the same information after someone already told you what you asked.

Buy the Cornsnake Manual by Kathy Love. Www.cornutopia.com

That's a good starting point. As was said, use the search feature, read the FAQ's, etc.

I personally like this...

And then after three posts we progress to expert level...

So which is it dearie?

You just don't sound mature enough to even handle keeping snakes if you can afford the snake, but not a book that details everything you could ever want to know about Corn snakes.

I thought they were giving you pretty good advice. People get sick of helping people who have no desire to help themselves. The search function won't eat you, I promise. I find myself using it daily to look up stuff, there is a wealth of information in there, all you have to do is be willing to unlock it. We can't do the work for you.

And personally, I have to wonder why would you keep all of the snakes that you hatched out. Cornsnakes can lay 8-30+ eggs, do you really want that many snakes? How do plan on feeding, caging them all separately, medical attention if the need arises? But yet, too cheap to buy a book?

You are transparent to most of us, because we were 18 once, we remember how we thought at that age. No one is trying to give you a hard time, you're creating the hard time for yourself.

Feel free to come back and act maturely and see if you get a better reception. If not, go crawl back to your rock. =)

Nothing like asking for information - a LOT of information - and then telling those you ask to shut up.

Noobs.

As previously stated, buy the book (Kathy Love's Manual), and then buy the other book (Dale Carnegie's "How To Win Friends And Influence People).

three years ago i had two corn snakes i bought from the local pet store. I had them for a month till things went to crap in my home and i was placed in foster care. The lady i was staying with would not alow " such a demon" in her house. So shortly after i was placed in the home my snakes died. No one would care for them. I am now on my own and i am very excited to have raised enough money to start my project back up. Of being a snake lover i thing they are the COOLEST THING EVER IN GODS CREATION! So agine i have had snakes, but i did not have them that long to learn as much i would have liked to.. Thank you ;)
