Custom tank suitable for corn?

SilverWolf

Alpha Wolf
I built this custom tank for a Bearded Dragon that I no longer have. I was just wondering if I could use it for my corn snake. Of course it might be too much room. It's 4ft long 2ft wide and 18 inches high. It's made of pine. I think I'd have to put a lock on the sliding doors and I'd most likely need to change the vents so he couldn't escape. lol Of course it's empty right now, the stuff inside in the pic is gone.

If it's not suitable I'll most likely sell it so I can have more room for another tank or tanks for either snakes or crested geckos. lol

thanks!

I've heard over time of me being here that you should never use anything pine for a corn snake...at least I think pine was in the list of "never use"...I'm pretty sure it is...so since it's made out of pine I wouldn't suggest it since the snake might have an allergic reaction to it...or it just might be a bad wood type to be around him...of course you might want to wait for a more experienced person to post another mesage after me...I'm sorry I can't confirm my suggestion but I do still consider myself new to the world of corn snakes.. :)

I think you'll be better off selling that and purchasing possibly an all glass tank with a locking screen top.

Like Maize411 pointed out, sometimes pine can actually be a problem for snakes due to reactions from the pine resin. So, that could very well cause problems for any snake you put in there.

Another thing, depending on what kind of snake you plan on housing in there, it's more room than you'll ever need for a corn snake. You could easily get by with a 20-30 gallon long tank for a corn. While extra room isn't a bad thing, why waste the space in your place if you don't need to :)

Thanks, I kinda wondered about the pine myself. Plus I have trouble finding my corn snake in the 20 gallon long I currently have him in, so I know I'd never find him in that one. lol No biggie, I'll either sell it and buy more tanks for future purchases, or I might just let my bf have it to use for his Bearded Dragon. Of course he'd have to find the space for it too. lol I kinda hate to see it go as I am pretty proud of myself for building it. Oh well. Thanks for the help. This site is great!
