Legal definition
Cyberbullying is defined in legal glossaries as
• actions that use information and communication technologies to support deliberate, repeated, and hostile behavior by an individual or group, that is intended to harm another or others.
• use of communication technologies for the intention of harming another person
• use of internet service and mobile technologies such as web pages and discussion groups as well as instant messaging or SMS text messaging with the intention of harming another person.
Examples of what constitutes cyberbullying include communications that seek to intimidate, control, manipulate, put down, falsely discredit, or humiliate the recipient. The actions are deliberate, repeated, and hostile behavior intended to harm another. Cyberbullying has been defined by The National Crime Prevention Council: “When the Internet, cell phones or other devices are used to send or post text or images intended to hurt or embarrass another person."[1][2]
A cyberbully may be a person whom the target knows or an online stranger. A cyberbully may be anonymous and may solicit involvement of other people online who do not even know the target. This is known as a 'digital pile-on.'[3][/FONT]

This forum has great information! I've read the books & expand that knowledge reading about peoples experiences here on this forum. I enjoy reading about the successes members have with their snakes, and grieve with their losses.

God bless those who have been willing to risk being bullied and have asked questions here. Or have posted about a problem, looking for a solution. Or shared excitement &/or frustration over pips.

There are a lot of GREAT PEOPLE here! So SAD a few feel so compelled to Bully.

Before you accuse someone of bullying, it helps if you know the entire back story of user interactions on this site. Knowing only a small portion of things, one side of the story, or the tip of ice berg, might not give you everything you need to know about a situation.

Most people are given the benefit of the doubt for a long time, but if behavior patterns continue, they get called to the carpet for it.

This is a very supportive and helpful community, no one is ever chastised without good reason.

I agree with both of you and will add just a tad. Think of this as kind of corn snake boot camp. All the information is in front of you and yet 'old timers' will still share info and help, 70% of the time the 'newbie' will argue and say things like 'petco' said or my friend said. Once time has been put in on this forum one can get a feel for it, the people who hold back a bit listen to 'old timers' usually fit in fine. Now I know you are going to say but everyone can have an opinion, sure but if one sits back and looks at the names of the people giving them answers i.e. Kathy Love, Nanci, Susan on vet issues, the best loved Dr. Jeff. So sure ask away but then listen.
As far as excitement over pips we all are, he!! I jumped around like a crazy woman (the crazy part a given, but I can hardly walk let alone jump). Some of the best threads on here on progression or ongoing threads. For instance one thread about frustration of a piping clutch and then it flow into pipings appearing, wonderful. Starting a new thread everyday about the same clutch gets you and your pips overlooked. I have no idea the average age on this forum but it is maybe mid 30's, we are all sensitive to bullying and how bad it is. Then there is snarky, I'm snarky and a bit devious in my evaluation of a situation and sometimes down right rude. I will say if BB ever got snarky with me or put me in my place I know I deserve it. Nanci said something to me once and I cried for a couple hours, I was wrong and deserved it, but it still stung. I'm 65 so a little more mature then many on here, honestly if I thought someone was being bullied in a mean 'you're ugly' way I would report it.

Susan's.....

Perfect!

3 years ago.... I was the " newbie", Had a little knowledge of corns.... But I think my age kept me from being too out spoken. In those 3 years... I've learned 10 fold what I thought I knew 3 yrs ago.

Take your lumps.... And listen people!

And some day.... You too might be an " old-timer"!

Or maybe it wasn't my age? Maybe it was because the reason I'm here is for the animals I keep, and not for any personal glorification? Maybe.

I agree with y'all- I am still in the newbie stage & am hoping to advance to 'old timer' one day -at this point I am not too outspoken on here, but by watching interactions on this forum I will say-there are some values that will always hold true:you catch more flies with honey than vinegar & treat others how you would like to be treated, treat each other kindly even when you disagree.
I hope to stay true to these during my interactions with y'all on here as I try to in my personal life -y'all can feel free to check me on it & put me in my place if I don't! :)

Please do not substitute your snake's water with vinegar. If you insist on giving your snake something other than water to drink I recommend bottled spring water.

Also energy drinks are not suitable for a snake. They get a lot of their energy from the heat around them and should not resort to caffeine.

One other piece of advice I would like to give you is to not use your snakes like a whip. For one it is not nice to whip people and for two a snake's body is not designed to endure the whipping motion at the speeds required to whip.

And another thing. I really like your snakes.

LOL -I'll try to remember that. so I guess that means using them in a fire whip show is out of the question, huh? :(

If you want to have your fire corn whip your show (I think you meant snow) corn, that is a possibility that I will not object to, as long as you have your ducks in a row with respect to the resulting eggs that come as a result to the whipping. You will get amels het anery bloodred (aka granite).

Best Regards!

I would like to add that just because you don't see any interactions between moderators and people you you might view as crossing the line doesn't mean there isn't communication going on privately. It's just not everybody's business.

Can we not drag this off topic just this once please?

OP, some people also have a very odd sense of humor which might be viewed as bullying by some, but is actually a perhaps misplaced attempt at humor, which only that person might in fact appreciate...

Exactly.

Many of the reprimands or infractions go on behind the scenes, but don't take it as a sign of turning the other cheek. People do get infractions, when infractions are due. The mod team handles things with tact and very reasonably.

Those types of things are best done in private and not put on display for everyone to oogle at.

To keep this subject on topic I think it should be moved to the "General Chit-Chat Forum" or to the "Discussions about this site"

My previous comments tie in decently with the current location of this thread ("Miscellaneous Corn Snake Discussions")

In reference to the definition of cyberbullying, I seriously doubt any court would ever convict someone of wrongdoing by embarrassing someone that was actually DOING something that deserves to make them feel embarrassment.
