Boa may be coming any day with its tank. It is about 4/5 months old, 22-24 inches long and possibly underfed. Don't know condition of snake as yet. We have a snake room with 3 cornsnakes. Would it be safe to put it in same room. It could go in basement. We have a big room down there that was used for a python by former renter. Don't know a lot of details yet.

I'm a newbie, but I would strongly advise to quarantine your new snake for at least six months in a separate room. You just can't be sure if he holds any infectious diseases, mites, etc. If he's been underfed, then the previous owner's husbandry might be suspect as well. I personally wouldn't chance it. I'd never put new fish into my established tanks, so likewise, I'd be just as cautious with snakes. JMHO.

You will definitely want to quarantine it. Generally, it is advised to keep your new snake separate for 3-6 months in a different room (from what I've heard, corns generally only need to be qt'd for 3 months but boas and other snakes should be qt'd longer) and use completely different tools such as feeding tongs, feeding containers, etc. always wash your hands after taking care of qt'd snake and always take care of established snakes first and then qt'd snake.

I couldn't agree more with what Lboz has said. Any time you bring a new animal in you should have a quarintine plan in place. It helps protect you and your other pets from any unknown diseases your new baby may unexpectedly have.

We have a 3' by 6' section in basement against one outside wall. Cement floor. Could put 20 gal tank there and later close the front off to make a larger area for him. Then when it get older could use larger 9' by 12' enclosed room that was used for a python which has two outside walls. Both areas are raised about 4' of the floor. The basement is warm. He has under tank heater and heat lamps, bowls, hides, etc. that will be coming with him. Also could put portable heater if needed.

Thank you will put him/her in basement. I have a 3' x 6' section that could be finished later. It just need front section to complete enclosure. Also have a 9' X 12' room that was built for a python. These areas are about 4' higher then regular floor. It has a cement floor. Basement has heat vents open so pipes don't freeze. I could also use a portable heated if needed. My daughter has always wanted to go into snake rescuing and has always wanted a boa or python.

Good luck with your rescue. It sounds like you have everything in place for keeping your new baby from now until it is an adult.
Tell your daughter she's doing a great thing and I hope she continues her idea of reptile rehab. There aren't enough, and to have a girl with the love and room to care for them I think is awesome!!!

The only issue with using the room the python was in would be possible boid diseases, such as IBD, especially if the room wasn't very well cleaned (sterilized)

Sorry there are no updates. We still don't know if we will get this snake or not. Should know by the first of Nov. ( yes or No) Waiting impatiently. Wish I could go over and just get it. Snake wouldl not be going into room that was used for python for a long time. It has not been used for over 12 years. Will let everyone know if we get snake.
