I agree...they don't look like corns to me either.
And the names... rodeo? Desert Storm? What are those? I have never heard of those morphs...

It sounds like you may have been taken advantage of...

Lost in translation???

Maybe we just don't speak English english!

All kidding aside, I second the yellow rat suggestion.

Re:SOUNDS AS IF..

someone is utilizing a new sales ploy!!

I agree with the yellow ratsnake call!!

We were sold them by a friend as rodeo and desert storm morphs(one is a corn x sonoran gopher and the other is corn x pine snake)thats what we were told anyway. But they look exactly the same and i'm starting to have doubts!

whatever they are, they are not morphs (colour variations) they are hybrids....ahem, but not about to get into the whole hybrid arguement :)

Well then, that explains why they look so much alike. A pine snake, bull snake, and gopher snake are all closely related. They are basicallly the same...very little differences. They do vary a little due to locality, however.

Here is a website that talks about all three:
http://www.wnyherp.org/Caresheets/Snakes/gopher-snake.html

Here's another site:
http://www.surviveoutdoors.com/reference/snakes/pine_gopher.asp

Here's a quote from another site:
Although experts differ on classifications, there are 3 North American species listed for the Pituophis genus -- catenifer, deppei, melanoleucus -- with numerous subspecies, 5 in California alone.

One sources refers to Pituophis catenifer affinis as the Sonoran Gopher Snake and Pituophis catenifer deserticola as the Great Basin Gopher Snake. Other subspecies of this genus are variously called pine snakes or bull snakes.

It does make is hard my 2 the rodeo is a more muted patternationing rather than solid saddles, also the rodeo of mine is much more yellow as a base behind the caramel.

Actually these three types of Pits. very a great deal. The gopher snakes alone very widely in color and pattern. Saying there's not much difference between them is about the same as saying there's not much difference between a corn and a black rat.

I am afraid I didn't make myself clear. There are different colors (especially in captive bred ones), but their body shape, etc. is very similar.

I know a herpetologist at a local zoo who says that wild caught specimens can be very hard to distinguish from each other.
