Did FedEx over charge?

So i shipped a package earlier today and when i checked the shipping fee quote i was quoted $50 for my package. Well $50 turned out to be $70!! Anyone know why and what might have happened?

lol just a little confusing for me... I don't really understand why it was so much!

Did you weigh and measure the package properly? They double check specs and will not hesitate to charge you more. They also round up, so a 2.1lb box will be charged as if it were 3lbs.

I take it you put on your account?

If so, FedEx main station will re-weigh the package and re-calculate and sometime re-charge you.

Ok, there are a few reasons why it comes out to be more...
1) Didn't get a detailed quote where you input the box dimensions and the weight, not just the weight. (FedEx charges "dimensional weight" = average weight for a box that size), not the actual weight. I think a 6x6x6 box costs the same for 1lb to 3lbs because they charge you the 3lb weight. Always choose "detailed quote", "my packaging", and enter the size of the box you're using.
2) You got an online quote, but filled out a paper air bill. Online quotes include "online booking discount", but you get charged full price with a hand written shipping label.
3) As mentioned, your weight was off so they adjusted it by rounding up, or off because you didn't have everything in the box like cold/heat packs, packing peanuts, paper wads, bubble wrap, etc. when it was weighed. I used to always forget the cold pack when I weighed, doh!
4) The "residence delivery" box wasn't checked at time of quote, so more was charged as it wasn't a business address. I always ship to a FedEx staffed location now, so i never have to worry about this anymore.
5) Checking the box making it a "Must have signature" also raises the cost... also, not needed if shipped to a fedex location as "Hold for Pickup" as they make the receiver sign for the package anyway.

those are a few that I discovered since I was certified and started shipping... hopefully that helps!

It was a 1 lb square box package that i shipped priority over night. Im fedex certified so my account got charged. It was a normal package nothing special.... i did call FedEx though and they said that that $70 is just an estimate charge and that they aren't going to bill me until 5 to 7 business days AFTER the package is shipped?

Also im having it shipped to a FedEx facility not to a business or home.

Well i pre-packed the box myself and i just dropped the box off but the box had no labels on it, i had to fill out a label when i dropped it off..

That means you didn't get your discount for filling out the label online. It's always cheaper to do it online & print your label from your computer.

All the other stuff mentioned by others may also apply.

For billing, I think they bill once per month & you may need to wait a bit to see what they really charged you.
