I was holding him while I was on my computer and A firework went off outside. Wasnt very loud I guess but after a few moments I felt something run down my hand and hit my shirt ... I thought he had cut himself at first it was warm and runny. It smelt like fish food and had bits of white in it. I imeditaly put him back in his viv after dunking him in some water.

What was it?
 
If it didn't even remotely resemble the shape of a partially digested mouse, then the chances are good you been pooped on!

Fresh poo is pretty runny - we usually miss the liquid stuff, which is quickly absorbed by paper towel or substrate.

General rules:
- If it smells rank and makes you want to clean it up and get rid of it as soon as possible, then it's poo.
- If you're retching, your eyes are watering, you're throwing the windows open and wondering why gas masks went out of fashion - then it's a regurge! :rofl:

When you have a regurge, you'll know all about it. Once smelled, never forgotten.... *shudder*
 
They are quite often runny, nothing to worry about. Often when we find poo in the vivarium it is a few hours old, and has already started to harden. When its literally fresh out the snake, its warm and runny.

Its okay, everyone gets crapped on at some stage :)
 
My adult corn is strange.

It will hold in its poo for as long as it takes until i am ether holding it or if i put him on the floor to move around my living room and then will poo and it stinks really bad.

So whoever says they dont have personalities, your wrong lol

Next time I have to do a phylogenetic tree in a bio class based on physical traits, I'm doing "type of poop" as one of my traits. :grin01:

Poo or regurge? #2

Ok, I've searched and read and I still don't know what I'm seeing. All of the pictures I've seen of regurged mice look like the mice went through a meat grinder. Is that because someone has picked through them to find something or is that what they look like after they've been regurged?

Here's my situation. I would estimate Ziggy's age at near 6 months, I don't know his exact hatch date. I just went from pinkies to fuzzies 2 weeks ago because I couldn't see a lump in him after 12 hours and sometimes even right after he ate so I figured it was time to up the size. He took the first fuzzy fine and I didn't notice any lump after about 24-30 hours so I thought everything was fine.

About 3 days later I find this thing at the bottom of the cage but it sure didn't look like a poo or the pics of the regurges I've seen. It was smooth and whitish(the color of the mouse's fur) and about the size of the mouse length wise but thinner, maybe half the circumference of Ziggy. It didn't really smell, although I didn't get that close either.

Well, Ziggy sheds 3 days later so I'm thinking ok, maybe it was because of the shed. So I wait 8 days then try another fuzzy and he takes it just fine. This one was even smaller than the first so I'm thinking he should be fine. Hardly a lump after he ate it. Well, sure enough 3-4 days later I find the same thing.

So what do you think I'm finding here? Maybe he's having a tough time with the fur? The pinkies were pretty much hairless but these guys had a full body of hair. Was it the shed thing? Is it the spring "Love" thing? I'm kinda new to raising snakes so I'm not real sure if that would be a concern yet, plus I don't have any other snakes. So does a regurge normally look like a chopped up piece of fur and bones or does it look like a smooth little package? Also, how soon would a snake regurge or does it depend on the cause? I don't think it's size but maybe I need to go get a few more pinkies?

I know I threw up a lot of questions there but I'm just at a loss because the pictures I see of regurges don't resemble what I'm finding. I guess I should also ask how to proceed from here too. Should I wait the full 10 days and go back to pinkies for a while?

I have a new snake since 2 days and ( I think ) " Elvis " pooed today. How big is the poo of a 6 months old corn snake ? 2 inches long and about 1/2 inch in diameter, is that possible ? Any photos available ?
 
Actually, that seems huge. Is it black, or black and white? Does it resemble a partially digested mouse in anyway, or smell horible?
 
Personally, I think there are too many variables to say it should be a particular size. What sized prey did you feed? How often do you feed, what's the weight of the snake, etc. etc. If you fed him and then he poo'd a few days later, then that's normal snake digestion and all is well.

On the other hand...Nanci has way more poo experience than I have. ;)

Thanks for your reply, Nanci. It did not smell too bad...a bit fishy. It was outside slimy but inside the texture was harder. Colour black with a little bit of white at the side. It looked more like a worm than a mouse.
