DIY Styrofoam Rock Background

So after much browsing of all the great creations everyone has made with styrofoam, I thought I would make an attempt as well. I wanted to make a wall background that would have chilaxing spots... I made it from a styrofoam padding that a computer would be shipped in. Will post the final pic once it's finished drying... (btw how long should you wait before putting it in?)

Depends on what you used to create it. If you can still smell it, I'd wait awhile longer. Maybe set it outside to finish curing?

Yeah it's a craft version that I got at hobby lobby. It didn't melt the foam. But I initially tried sealing it with polyurethane and that caused some melting, kind of enhanced the look though.

Would you mind listing the brands of the paints and sealants you used? That looks REALLY good and I'd love to try it myself!

For the spray paint I used Krylon Antique Bronze Short Cuts Spray Paint. First I sprayed the entire surface, then I used basic acrylic black and brown paint to detail groves, cracks, etc. Then I put a light 2nd coat of spray paint over those cracks to blend it. That way it looked like real shadows and rock coloration. I covered the whole thing in Mod Podge to seal... seemed to work pretty good.
