Do corns normally soak or only when they're shedding?

I was just wondering, because I walked in my room from taking a shower and I saw him soaking in his water bowl. Then I knocked a book off the shelf and it made a loud noise, and he went back into his hide.
So I was just wondering.. Should I be looking to see if he's gonna shed? or do they just do it normally.

Also I don't have a humidity gauge thing. So I have no idea what the humidity is.... :/ My dad was like
"No you don't even need one you just need to spray their cage when they shed." .. so yeahhh.

Is he gonna shed soon, or is it normal?

I'm new at corn snakes sooo don't laugh at me. xD

Do you have a temp gauge? If not I suggest one of the indoor/outdoor thermometers. I just put the probe right where the heat mat is so I can make sure it is getting to the right temp and tape it down in place. Sometimes you can find one with a humidity readout as well.

Snakes do like to soak when they are in blue. And some others will soak if they are to hot. Then theres others that like water and swimming.

I have a digital thermometer thing with a probe, it's a zoo med one from the pet store.
It doesn't have a humidity thing though.
So yeah.
I was just wondering if he was gonna shed soon or something. :]

I've got 4 snakes that I bought a couple of weeks ago. 2 of them are constantly in their bowls, the other 2 don't go in at all. Sometimes they just like it.

There are only 3 reasons I know of why they go in their bowl: getting ready to shed, too hot or they have mites (check for black specks in the bowl when they are done). I don't think it's too common for them to do this, as I've never seen them do it (and my bowls are each big enough for the snakes to fit in).

I have one who likes to lounge in the water. Everyone else doesn't. I don't think it's heat, today she was in the bowl & her warm side was 83F & her cool side was 76F. I don't think she is getting ready to shed as she shed about 2 weeks ago. I don't have mites. Go figure!

Mine only seem to soak when they get too hot. It's my cue for an extra check of the stat.
